UPDATE (7 pm June 3): This story has been updated with additional information.

Newtown Police Department has cleared the scene of an incident in the area of Greenbriar Lane and Park Lane. Both roads are tertiary residential roads off South Main Street.

Newtown Police was dispatched to assist a state agency, Department of Children and Families (DCF), around 2 pm this afternoon, according to a statement from the local department. The two roads have both been closed, and now reopened, to through traffic due to the heavy law enforcement presence.

At least one Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps crew was also dispatched to the area.

Parents picked students up from buses at the intersection of Greenbriar Lane and South Main Street.

Newtown Police report the incident was isolated to a single residence and there is no danger to the public.

The investigation is no longer active.

Newtown Police report a 26-year-old Newtown resident barricaded herself inside a residence. The Newtown Bee is not identifying the woman due to the link to a DCF case. Officers remained outside the home and attempted to communicate with her. At approximately 4:45 pm, the woman fled from the residence on foot and was placed under arrest.

The woman was treated at Danbury Hospital for a laceration received prior to her arrest, and one regional police officer suffered a minor injury from the suspect as she was taken into custody. Specific criminal charges and other information will be released later this evening by the Newtown Police Department.

Hats off to the Newtown PD for another positive resolution. I truly applaud their patience and dedication—it’s impressive how they consistently deliver outcomes like this. This is the second time they’ve stepped up and prevented what could have been a much worse situation.

It does make me wonder, though—any word on when we might hear the final outcome of the last incident through the court system?
