Luke McCarthy, 2, was the first child entered in 2014’s Beautiful Baby Photo Contest. His entry photo has been placed in #1 spot on the voting booth, which will go on public display and begin receiving votes this weekend.

The photo booth will be put on display Friday, June 7, from 5 to 9 pm, for the opening night of Sandy Hook LobsterFest, at Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company’s main station, 18-20 Riverside Road. It will remain on display during both nights of the annual event, which continues Saturday, June 7, from 4 to 9 pm.

The public is invited to vote for their favorite child by putting a $1 bill into the slot accompanying each child’s photo. The photo that raises the highest amount of month at the end of the contest period will win that child and their parents a chauffeur driven ride in the Newtown Labor Day Parade on September 1. Their photo will also be published in The Newtown Bee.

All children who are entered into the contest and their parents will also be invited to march in the parade, and all entrants will receive a gift package valued at more than $100.

After LobsterFest the voting booth will move to Stop & Shop in Sand Hill Plaza, 228 South Main Street, where it will continue to receive “votes” until Sunday, June 22.

All of the money raised by the contest goes to charity and non-profits. This year’s recipients will be Sandy Hook Fire & Rescue and the Labor Day Parade Committee.

Parents, grandparents and friends can still enter a child into the contest. Children up to age 4 are eligible to be entered. Send a $10 entry check, payable to Newtown Labor Day Parade Committee, and a 4 by 4-inch photo (cut a 4 by 6 photo down to size; photos are not returned at the end of the contest) with the child’s name, an adult’s contact phone number and, if available, an email address, all written clearly on the back of the photo, to Beautiful Baby c/o Lois Barber, 33 Zoar Road, Sandy Hook CT 06482.
