Head O' Meadow Principal Barbara Gasparine welcomed gathered students and educators to an assembly on Wednesday, May 18, held to celebrate the kindergarten Spanish program.

As students entered the school's cafetorium, songs by music teacher Cynthia Holberg's music and dance ensemble, Cascada de Flores, played over speakers.

The district's world language immersion program was piloted for kindergarten students this school year, and Ms Gasparine announced that videos were taken of kindergarten students at each elementary school in town singing, under the guidance of Foreign Language in Elementary Schools (FLES) kindergarten Spanish program teacher Marianne Grenier.

The Head O' Meadow students laughed and responded as they watched the videos, especially when they noticed their kindergarten schoolmates on the projected screen.

"And now a special performance by our own Head O' Meadow kindergarteners," said Ms Gasparine.

Ms Holberg led the students through singing multiple songs from Spain, Mexico and Puerto Rico. The songs, Ms Holberg said, are beautiful and helped the students learn "our Spanish words."

Ms Grenier spoke in Spanish at the end of the assembly, to thank everyone for coming, including First Selectman Pat Llodra and Superintendent of Schools Joseph V. Erardi, Jr.
