Christopher Charles "Chris" Canfield, 31, of Pompano Beach, Fla., died May 28. He was born July 10, 1986, son of Lea and Charles Canfield, Jr, in Bridgeport.

Mr Canfield, or otherwise fondly known as "Tubesox," "Topher," "Tiss," and "Spudly," grew up in Newtown, where he attended St Rose of Lima as a youth and graduated from Newtown High School in 2004. Growing up, he had a passion for art, cooking, motor sports, the beach, and his family. He graduated from The New England Center of Culinary Arts in 2006 with high regards from his peers and glowing recommendations.

Mr Canfield thrived in the fast-paced restaurant atmosphere and cultivated numerous hobbies throughout his life. In his spare time, he could be found tattooing or being tattooed, fishing, riding his motorcycle, sending funny pictures and videos to friends and family, creating meals, or just spending time with those he cherished.

His loved ones say his sense of humor was something that cannot be put into words, as he lit up the room with his big brown eyes and infectious laugh. After working in Boston as a chef for a few years, Mr Canfield moved to Florida in 2010 to take advantage of his zest for life and to be able to ride his motorcycle year-round. He took annual fishing charters with his father, who spent the majority of the winter with him in Florida; had many memories on Martha's Vineyard; and called his mother and siblings weekly just to say "hey." Those who knew him say the echo of his laughter is something that will not soon be forgotten.

His mother, Lea Benvenuti; father, Charles Canfield, Jr; brothers, Ethan and Sean; and sister, Emma, survive him. He is also survived by his grandmother, Fran Surles; uncles and aunts, first cousins, and a multitude of second cousins.

His paternal grandparents, Charles, Sr, and Hattie Canfield; and maternal grandfather, E. James Benvenuti, predeceased him.

A memorial gathering to celebrate his life will be Saturday, June 9, from 2 to 4 pm, at Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home 315 Monroe Turnpike Monroe.

A Mass will take place Saturday, June 30, at 10:30 am at St Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown, with a reception to follow.
