Art & Science Camp 2000 At Mattatuck Museum

WATERBURY — Looking ahead to a long, hot summer with the kids? Parents are encouraged to consider something fresh and new with the Mattatuck Museum’s Art and Science Camps 2000.

Students can sign up for a combination of any or all of the nine weeks of art camp or the six weeks of science camp. Students will explore a different and exciting theme each week through hands-on learning about artistic techniques and scientific subjects.

Summer Art Camp will be directed by Christine Jewell, the program coordinator at the Mattatuck Museum. Sessions begin June 19 and include drawing and painting, puppetry, photography, papermaking, costume making, dinosaur week, and more.

Instructors include Georgia Sheron, a professional photographer with a studio in Oakville; Eleanor Brasche, an elementary teacher specializing in craft arts; and Maura O’Shea, part of the museum’s artists’ roster who has taught at Silvermine Arts Center.

Summer Science Camp is directed by the museum’s education coordinator, Nina Cherubino. Sessions begin July 17 and include exploring ocean life, studying insects and spiders, learning about outer space, and more. Instructors include Rosemary Greaney, M. Ed., a teacher at Children’s Community School; Carolyn Pucarol, M. Ed., a teacher at Gilmartin Elementary and Holy Cross High Schools; and Honor Simeone, an elementary teacher in the Greenwich public schools system.

Children ages 5 to 8 can enroll in the morning session, and ages 8 to 12 can enroll in the morning, afternoon, or all-day sessions.

Fees for just morning or afternoon sessions are $85 a week; fees for all-day campers, ages 8 to 12, are $170.

For more information, call the Mattatuck Museum at 203/753-0381, extension 10. All classes are held on-site at the museum, 144 West Main Street.
