BRIDGEPORT — Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo invites all Newtown residents to visit the zoo on Saturday, June 15, for a reduced admission fee of just $5 with proper ID.

Meet and greet with town officials, business and civic leaders, friends, and neighbors during a fun filled day for the whole family.

“Newtown Day gives us the opportunity to say thank you to our neighbors who have continuously supported us throughout the years,” explained Gregg Dancho, zoo director.

Newtown residents are invited to spend the day visiting new animals at the zoo and enjoying the great outdoors. The zoo recently welcomed new animals including a rare Amur Leopard, a North American river otter, gray foxes, a female Chacoan peccary, two female Nigerian Dwarf goats, six Guinea hog piglets and two male agoutis.

Two new Dromedary camels, named Toby and Goliath, may be found on the greenhouse lawn and rides will be available from 9 am to 3:30 pm for $5 per person, which includes photos.

Connecticut's only zoo features 300 animals representing primarily North and South American species. Features include Amur (Siberian) tigers, Brazilian ocelot, Red wolves, and Golden Lion tamarins. Other highlights include a South American rainforest with free-flight aviary, the prairie dog exhibit with “pop-up” viewing areas, the New England Farmyard with goats, cows, pigs, sheep, and other barnyard critters, plus the hoofstock trail featuring bison, pronghorn, deer, and more.

Visitors can grab a bite at the Peacock Café, eat in the Picnic Grove, and enjoy a ride on a colorful carousel.

Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo has a number of days set aside this year to honor different towns and states in Connecticut. Milford and Seymour are also being recognized this month.

The zoo is at 1875 Noble Avenue, easily reached from I-95. For more information call 203-394-6565 or visit www.beardsleyzoo.org.
