Blessing Of The Bikes, Saturday

On Saturday, June 22, from 8:30 to 11:30 am, the 6th Annual Blessing of the Bikes will be held at Newtown United Methodist Church. Blessings will be given to all motorcycles, bicycles and riders.

A hearty breakfast with all the trimmings will be served for the fee of a freewill donation. The church is at 92 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook.

The first two years this event was held, rain dampened the road and attendance. For the next three years, however, sun was on the side of organizers and many riders dropped by.

Anyone with an interest in biking is welcome, whether visitors are current bikers, have had an interest in the past, or are just getting started.

Plaques will be given out again this year, honoring Youngest Biker, Oldest Biker, Patron Riding In from The Furthest Distance, and Owner of the Oldest Motorcycle.

Members of several local clubs will be in attendance. Because it is an outreach event, members of Christian Motorcycle Association/The Hat City Riders and The Beacon Riders of New York are also planning to attend.

If there is rain on June 22, the event will still be held. Organizers are inviting anyone with an interest to visit the church, regardless of the weather – breakfast will be served all morning.

For additional information contact Don Cavanaugh at 264-4275, Martin Maciag at 426-4817, or Barb Carlson at Newtown United Methodist Church, 426-9998.
