Violations

Police said they charged Hadi Nur Wakhid, 23, of West Haven on June 11 with third-degree forgery, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, misuse of marker plates, and operating a motor vehicle without a license.

Police said they went to Mt Nebo Road about 10:12 pm on a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area. Police said they located that vehicle and its driver, Wakhid, provided them with a fraudulent international driver’s license and also with Connecticut and New Jersey identification cards, which were acquired via the Internet.

 Police released Wakhid on a $96 bond for a June 26 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

Ford Vs Ford

Police report that as motorist Keith Malkin, 27, of New Milford, who was driving a 1997 Ford F-350 pickup truck, passed motorist Bruce Malkin, 67, of 43 Mt Nebo Road, who was driving a 1999 Ford F-250 pickup truck, on Boggs Hill Road at about 7:20 pm on May 30, the two trucks collided.

The trucks were traveling in opposite directions when each truck’s left exterior mirror struck the other truck’s left exterior mirror, police said. The two drivers are not related, police said.

Keith Malkin got some glass in his arm after the mirrors collided.

Police said they took no enforcement action because it was unclear who was at fault in the crash.

Volvo Struck

At about 7:10 pm on June 11, motorist Kim Smith, 45, of 33 Currituck Road, who was driving a 1997 Volvo 960 sedan, stopped at a stop sign at Currituck Road’s intersection with Main Street and was waiting to turn left from Currituck Road onto southbound Main Street, when a dark-colored Subaru Outback, which was traveling northbound on Main Street, made a wide turn onto northbound Currituck Road, sideswiping the stopped Volvo, police said.

The Subaru did not stop and continued northward on Currituck Road, police said. The collision damaged the Volvo’s left front bumper and signal lamp.

There were no injuries or enforcement actions taken, police said. Police ask anyone with information about the accident to contact them at 426-5841.

Mt Pleasant Collision

Motorist Rachel Almeida, 17, of Brookfield was driving a 1990 Toyota Camry uphill in the passing lane of two eastbound travel lanes on Mt Pleasant Road, just east of Mt Pleasant Road’s intersection with Hawleyville Road, at about 6:20 pm June 10, when Ms Almeida suddenly slowed down and then stopped the Toyota, police said.

When that happened, motorist Carol Lariviere, 60, of 222 Berkshire Road, who was driving a 1999 Mercedes-Benz E-320 directly behind the Toyota, struck the Toyota from behind, police said.

Police said the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Rachel Almeida and her brother, Brian Almeida, age 3, who was traveling in a child safety seat in the rear seat of the Toyota, to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries.

Police issued Lariviere an infraction ticket for following too closely. Police issued Rachel Almeida an infraction ticket for making a sudden stop on a highway.

Four-Vehicle Crash

Police report a four-vehicle, chain-reaction accident on eastbound Church Hill Road about 8 pm June 10.

Motorist Emily Mayer, 18, of Southbury, who was driving a 1996 Honda UCL, drove into the rear end of a 1993 Mazda 626 driven by Joshua Dittmar, 18, of 6 Bishop Circle, thus pushing the Mazda into the rear end of a 2002 Subaru Impreza driven by Catherine Hart, 26, of 8 West Street, thus pushing the Subaru into the rear end of a 1989 Ford pickup truck driven by William Kallay, 26, of 25 Laurel Trail, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Mayer for following too closely.

House Burglary

Police report that they learned June 10 that a house had been burglarized on Mountain Laurel Lane. The thief stole approximately $1,500 worth of goods. Police ask anyone with information on the matter to contact them at 426-5841.

Jewelry Theft

Police received a report June 5 from a Moccasin Trail resident that four rings had been stolen from a jewelry box in a bedroom. The items are valued at $1,900. The case is under investigation.

Auto Off Road

Motorist Brittany Darden, 18, of 121 Lakeview Terrace was driving a 2001 Saturn sedan northward on South Main Street, near Prospect Drive, about 1:47 am June 15, when the auto drifted off the road onto the northbound shoulder and then hit some curbing, resulting in damaged right-side tires and a damaged vehicle undercarriage, police said.

Darden was not injured. Police issued her a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Truck Off Road

Motorist Jonathan Brower, 17, of 6 Winding Brook Road, who was driving a 1984 Chevrolet pickup truck southbound on Brushy Hill Road about 7:18 am June 15, drifted onto the southbound road shoulder and struck a tree, resulting in heavy damage, police said.

Brower was uninjured. Police issued him an infraction ticket on a charge of making a restricted turn.

Jeremiah Crash

Motorist Robert Sheldon, 66, of 149 Lakeview Terrace was driving a 1999 Dodge Ram pickup truck on Jeremiah Road about 1:20 pm June 13, when motorist Matthew Corkum, 16, of 25 Greenbriar Lane, who was driving a 2000 Dodge Neon, pulled out of a driveway and collided with the pickup truck, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Corkum a written warning for failure to yield the right of way at a private driveway.

Church Hill Accident

Motorist Rebecca Bowes, 51, of 5 Evergreen Road, who was driving a 1997 Ford Taurus eastbound on Church Hill Road about 1:28 pm June 1, was making a left turn onto The Boulevard, when she crossed into the path of westbound motorist Elizabeth Althen, 36, of Southbury, who was driving a 1995 Honda Accord station wagon, resulting in a collision, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Bowes a written warning for making a restricted turn.

 

SUV Mishap

Motorist Dorothy Pogers, 18, of Brookfield parked a 1991 Ford Explorer on private property at 153 Sugar Street about 10 am June 13, set the vehicle’s brake, and then left the vehicle, police said.

Pogers then spotted the sport-utility vehicle rolling toward Sugar Street, police said. Pogers was unable to reset the brake from outside the vehicle, police said. She then attempted to physically stop the rolling vehicle with the weight of her body, but was not able to do so and the vehicle rolled over her right leg, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Pogers to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries. There was no enforcement action.

Vandalism Charge

Brian Silber, 16, of 5 Crown View Drive, Sandy Hook, turned himself over to police June 15 after learning there was a warrant for his arrest, police said. 

Police charged Silber with second-degree criminal mischief in connection with a May 30 incident in which he allegedly used a key to deface a teacher’s vehicle at Newtown High School.

Police released Silber on a $300 bond for a June 27 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charge.

Probation Charge

Police said they arrested Adam Chernowsky, 25, of Shelton on a warrant on a violation of probation charge at the Bridgeport jail on June 15. After processing, his arrest, police released Chernowsky on a $10,000 bond for a July 2 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Mt Pleasant Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Mt Pleasant Road, near The Old Road, at about 8 pm June 14. The crash involved motorist Elizabeth Driscoll, 41, of 3 Overlook Drive, who was driving a 1996 Ford Windstar, and motorist Tom Voeth, 36, of Danbury, who was driving a 1990 Nissan Pathfinder. There were no injuries in the mishap. Police issued Driscoll a written warning for making a restricted turn. Police issued Voeth a written warning for passing on the right.

Route 34 Rollover

Motorist Cathleen Dee, 41, of 12 Yogananda Street, Sandy Hook, was driving a 1999 Suzuki Vitara sport-utility vehicle westbound on Route 34, near Zoar Road, about 5:45 pm June 12, when the vehicle went off the right side of the road and rolled over, coming to rest on its roof, police said.

Sandy Hook firefighters went to the accident. Ambulance staffers transported Cathleen Dee and two passengers, Nicolas Dee, 9, and Stephnie Dee, 6, all of the same address, to Danbury Hospital for treatment of back and head injuries, police said. The crash is under investigation.

South Main Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident on South Main Street about 4:44 pm June 14. The accident involved motorist Karen Volkers, 42, of 4 Fox Run Lane, who was driving a 2002 Dodge Caravan minivan carrying three passengers, and Daniel Barrett, 45, of 5 Black Walnut Drive, who was driving a 2001 Dodge Durango sport-utility vehicle. There were no injuries or enforcement actions, police said.

Rainstorm Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Mt Pleasant Road near Sawmill Road about 7:37 pm June 12 during a heavy rainstorm.

In that incident, westbound motorist Sean Tracey, 18, of 13 Hawthorne Hill Road, who was driving a 1995 Plymouth Neon, stopped to make a turn and was then struck from behind by westbound motorist John Tolson, 42, of 16 Grand Place, who was driving a 2001 Ford F-350 pickup truck, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Tolson a written warning for following too closely.

I-84 DUI

State police said they saw motorist Michael Maher, 47, of Danbury weaving on the road while driving westbound on Interstate 84 near Exit 10 about 9 pm June 16.

State police stopped Maher and performed sobriety tests, which Maher failed, after which they charged him with driving under the influence and failure to drive in the established lane. After posting a $500 nonsurety bond, state police released Maher for a June 24 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Highway DUI

State police report they saw motorist Brian Bass, 29, of New Fairfield driving erratically on eastbound Interstate 84 near Exit 10, after which they stopped him on the Exit 10 off-ramp about 12:18 am June 12.

State police charged Bass with driving under the influence. State police released Bass on a $500 nonsurety bond for a June 24 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Commuter Lot

While on patrol about noon on June 12, state police spotted a vehicle with a smashed front-passenger window, parked at Interstate 84’s Exit 11 commuter parking lot on Mile Hill Road. It is unknown whether anything was stolen from the auto, which is owned by a Danbury man. The criminal mischief is under investigation.

Huntingtown Collision

A two-vehicle crash occurred on Huntingtown Road about 11:50 am June 12, police report.

Northbound motorist Sklar Carter, 35, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1997 Mitsubishi van, missed a turn, so Carter stopped and then backed up, police said. In backing up, Carter struck a northbound 1998 Ford Explorer driven by William Flynn, 38, of 52 Nearbrook Drive.

There were no injuries. Police issued Carter a written warning for unsafe backing.

Warrant

Police said they served a warrant early on June 19 against Angela Woycik, 34, of 68 Appleblossom Lane charging her with failure to appear in court, driving under the influence, and failure to drive to the right.

Police said they held Woycik on a $20,000 bond to answer the three charges at an appearance later that day in Danbury Superior Court.

Intersection Collision

Police report a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Queen Street and Glover Avenue at about 3:15 pm June 14. Motorist Timothy Spiro, 37, of 12 Grand Place, who was driving a 1997 Dodge Ram pickup truck eastbound on Glover Avenue, pulled out into the intersection in front of motorist Janine Pixley, 17, 48 Bears Hill Road, who was driving a 1992 Saturn SL-2 southbound on Queen Street, resulting in a collision, police said. Pixley was evaluated for injuries. Police issued Spiro an infraction ticket on a stop sign violation.
