Lorenz Mang, husband of Heidi Mang, passed away peacefully in his sleep, June 11. He was born in Oberschweinbach, Germany in April 1932.

He and his wife resided in Newtown for the past 16 years. Lorenz’s survivors include his daughter Doris and her husband, Tim, of Newtown, his daughter Susi and her husband, Tommy, of York, Maine, and his son Andreas and his wife, Megan, of West Hartford. Also surviving are his nine grandchildren, Tyler, Connor, Jack, Timmy, Will, Allie, Reece, Liesl, and Christian.

Lorenz came from a large family of eight children and grew up on his family farm in Bavaria. In 1955 he immigrated to America, joining the US Army in the backdrop of World War II. He met his wife, Heidi, while skiing at Kitzbuhler Horn in Austria.

In 1978, they settled in the Branchville section of Ridgefield, where together they raised their three children. He became a US citizen in 1990, and a proud German-American. Lorenz enjoyed tennis, skiing, hiking, singing, dancing, a good meal, and a warm beer. He will be greatly missed.

Arrangements are being made by the Honan Funeral Home of Newtown and services will be private.
