Occupation: I am the director of mission advancement for St Rose School, which entails communications, marketing, and fundraising. My children are alumni, so I can speak honestly about what makes the school such a special place.

Family: My husband, John, and I will be married 29 years this month. We have a daughter, Brianne, 25, who lives in Stamford and works for Save the Children. Our son Jack, 22, recently graduated from college and will be serving as a missionary for Focus in Montana over the next two years. Our youngest son, Aidan, 20, is living and working in Boston as he pursues a career in the performing arts.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We moved to our first home in Newtown in 1994 and have been in our current home since 2003.

What do you like to do in your free time? I enjoy taking walks, visiting with friends and family, going out for dinner and to the theater, reading, and doing crossword puzzles.

What is your favorite book? Recently, I read I Was Anastasia by Ariel Lawhon, which was quite good. Currently, I am reading Jesus: The God Who Knows Your Name by Max Lucado.

What is your favorite travel destination? I am most at peace near the water. I love the beaches of Cape Cod and Lake Saratoga, N.Y., and hiking trails with waterfalls and streams.

What is the best part about Newtown? Winter, spring, summer, or fall, Newtown is beautiful. We never tire of driving along the winding roads and soaking in the scenery — red barns, grazing horses and cows, tree lined lanes, open meadows, church steeples against magnificent sunsets, and the flagpole, which is always a moving vision against many backdrops and emotions. We have a caring, vibrant community here. Newtown truly is home in my heart.

What organizations are you part of in Newtown? I am involved with the Columbiettes, a women’s service group at St Rose Church. I have also been invited onto the board of the Chamber of Commerce; I am looking forward to working with local businesses and helping the Chamber with events such as Newtown Day.

Who or what has been the greatest influence in your life? Faith is the greatest influence in my life. There are ups and downs but one thing is constant, that is God. I am grateful for my grandparents, parents, husband, and many family, friends, religious, and clergy whose strong faith helps me deepen my relationship with God.

If you could spend the day with one person, who would you choose and why? My grandfather, Popa King. He had a thirst for knowledge. As a young boy in Ireland, where books were scarce, he memorized 200 poems, including “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.” He recited those poems well into his 90s. He had to leave school after eighth grade to help on the family farm. Then he came over to America, where he worked three jobs to provide his family with a good life. He never stopped learning. He continued to memorize and write poems, and he also painted lovely landscapes. Popa King was a true gentleman whose faith and fortitude had a lasting impact on me.

Who is your favorite musical artist? John Denver and Neil Diamond are favorites, but I also love a good dance tune (think 1970s) and I am a big fan of Broadway musicals, especially Les Miserables.

What is the greatest piece of advice you have ever been given? My Dad always told us that every day we should “Say Hello to God, make someone happy and learn something new.”

What is something you cannot live without? I am a frequent flyer at TJ Maxx. There was once a sign in the window that read “Miss a Week, Miss A Lot!” This sums it up perfectly.

What is your proudest accomplishment? My proudest accomplishment is raising our three children. Together, John and I created a stable, loving home. Being present for all of their milestones, and the day in/day out moments of family life was a great blessing. Now they are spreading their wings, but I think they know that wherever they go they are rooted in love — and that our nest will always be a safe place to land.
