NFoM Celebrates 24 Years

Newtown Friends of Music recently held its annual meeting and celebrated a highly successful completion of its 24th year of sponsoring concerts and programs related to music.

The 2001-02 season saw five critically acclaimed concerts at Edmond Town Hall, a special holiday concert fundraiser at Trinity Church, and two school outreach programs for the fourth, fifth and sixth grade orchestra students in the Newtown schools. Over 200 youngsters from Newtown participated in the outreach programs and string students from Fairfield also attended as guests.

Also accomplished at the May 21 meeting was the election of Peter Marshall to NFoM’s board of directors. Re-elected to serve for another year as officers were Ellen Parrella, president; Fred Parrella, vice-president; Paul Gehrett, treasurer; and Ian McMahon, secretary.

Those remaining on the board for another are Jane Conningham, Travilla Deming, Cheryl Edelen, Margy Henderson, Lea Kinstler, Dorothea LaBelle, Frederika Leet, Arthur Phullips, Joan Popovic, Richard Salerno, MaryJo Tyler, Wally Wood. Board members are residents of Newtown and surrounding towns.
