The Ashurst Academy of Irish Dance recently celebrated its seventh year with its production, “Holiday Inn.”

The end of year recital held at Newtown High School on May 20 showcased dancers of all levels, from the youngest Little Shamrockers through to elite champions, in pieces themed around holidays from St Patrick’s Day and Veterans Day to Halloween, and New Years.

The production brought audiences both light shoe numbers, similar to ballet and incredibly athletic, as well as heavy shoe pieces, which have become iconic as seen in famous rhythmic Irish dances such as “Riverdance.”

The show was choreographed and created by the directors of the academy, Christina Dolzall-Ashurst and Craig Ashurst. The couple formerly toured and were leads in “Riverdance,” Michael Flatley’s “Lord of the Dance,” and “Celtic Woman.” They now reside in Newtown.

Their studio is at 3 Simm Lane in Newtown.
