According to the experienced support team at Interpersonal Wellness, the practice “was founded in 2017 with the idea that we all need a little help dealing with the curve balls that life throws at us.”

On Friday, June 27, 2 pm, Interpersonal Wellness will celebrate the opening of its new offices at 172 Mount Pleasant Road with First Selectman Jeff Capeci and representatives from Newtown’s Economic and Community Development office and Economic Development Commission, as they host a ribbon-cutting event that is open to the public.

The practice features a caring and experienced staff, including owner Linda Tran, MS, LPC, NCC, a Certified EMDR Therapist, and EMDRIA Approved Consultant. Tran is complimented by Licensed Clinical Intake Coordinator Michelle Weinstein LADC; bilingual (Portuguese) Marriage & Family Therapist Cecilia Rodrigues LMFT; along with bilingual (Spanish) and EMDR Therapists Priscilla Montes MA, MSc, LPCA; and Kristina Sorfozo MA, LPCA.

The clinicians are committed to providing sessions to help guide clients through exploring emotions, beliefs, and behaviors they may be struggling with through in-person and HIPPA-compliant telehealth services.

“We’ll help you get to a better place where you don’t have to rely on old patterns for a sense of stability – and replace them with more functional patterns to discover ways for integrating positive changes into your life,” the website states.

The practice can help clients experiencing PTSD trauma and abuse, anxiety, depression and mood disorders, relationship issues, attention difficulties (ADHD), and parenting challenges. They also provide effective grief counseling, anger and stress management.

The Interpersonal Wellness team is also trained and ready to offer eye movement desensitization and reprocessing or EMDR — the most common treatment for PTSD. It is recommended by many organizations, including the American Psychiatric Association, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies.

Newtown ECD Director John Voket said the community will benefit greatly thanks to the addition of this new Interpersonal Wellness practice.

“With troubling issues so many people in the region are grappling with, it’s good to know that Newtown has a growing number of mental health and wellness support professionals with such advanced and effective expertise who are accepting new clients at this expanded location right here on our own ‘Medical Mile’ — Mt. Pleasant Road,” Voket said. “It’s practices like Interpersonal Wellness that continue to help break down stigmas by providing a safe, welcoming place for individuals seeking support to address and tackle the challenges they are facing.”
