Windshield Struck

Motorist Robert Caffrey, 52, of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., was driving a 2015 Lexus vehicle westward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, about 8:02 pm on June 12, when an unknown object struck his windshield, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police ask any witnesses to the incident to contact them at Troop A in Southbury at 203-267-2200.

Shoplifting

Police received a report on June 20 from the Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street that at about 3:22 pm on June 13, a male and a female had entered the store and stole various beverages including some Red Bull-brand energy drink.

After stealing the goods, the pair left the premises in a silver-colored vehicle, which was possibly a Ford Explorer SUV, police said.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the theft to contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 203-426-5841.

 

Fuel Tank Punctured

Motorist Danielle Sienkiewicz, 22, of Woodbury was driving a 2012 Nissan Murano SUV westward on Interstate 84, about one-half mile east of Exit 10, about 6:05 pm on June 13, when a metal object that had fallen off some other vehicle landed on the pavement and Sienkiewicz drove over it, according to state police.

The impact punctured the Nissan's fuel tank and damaged one of its tires, state police said. There were no injuries.

Motorcycle Accident

Motorcyclist William Mabie, 45, of Danbury was riding a 1999 Harley-Davidson FXST Custom westward on Interstate 84, about 100 feet east of the Exit 10 off-ramp, at about 7:51 pm on June 14, when while entering a curve, he went into a skid and then lost control of the motorcycle, after which he brought the vehicle to a controlled stop on some turf, state police said.

Mabie was transported to Danbury Hospital for medical treatment, state police said. Mabie received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions, according to state police.

Motorcycle Crash

A motorcycle accident occurred about 8:21 pm on June 14 on the Exit 10 on-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84, according to state police.

State police said that John P. Boettcher, 59, of Middlebury was riding a 2012 BMW K-1600-GT motorcycle on the ramp, with John Boettcher, 17, of the same address, as a passenger.

The motorcyclist lost control of the vehicle and struck some guardcabling, state police said. A Stony Hill Volunteer Ambulance crew transported the passenger to Danbury Hospital to be treated for injuries, according to state police.

John P. Boettcher was traveling too fast for conditions, state police said.

Police Vehicle Incident

State police said that at about 8 am on June 15, motorist Vincent Urbanski, 72, of Brookfield was driving a 1999 Ford Econoline van on Interstate 84's Exit 11 off-ramp, when he slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by state police Sergeant Brian Mohl, 45, who was driving a 2015 Ford Interceptor police vehicle.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Wheel Off Trailer

State police report that Jeremiah Stump, 21, of Myerstown, Penn., was driving a 2004 Dodge 3500 pickup truck, which was hauling a flatbed trailer, on eastbound Interstate 84 at about 10:43 am on June 15, when a wheel fell off the trailer and then struck a 2014 Honda Civic driven by Steven Conn, 61, of Wenonah, N.J. There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Ring Found

On the afternoon of June 15, police received for safekeeping a finger ring that had been found alongside Riverside Road in Sandy Hook. The ring commemorates the Class of 1972 at Northwestern Connecticut Community College, which is located in Winsted.

The owner of the ring may claim it by contacting police Officer Bart Lorancaitis at the police station at 3 Main Street, 203-426-5841.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Sarah Lyons, 56, of Danbury went to the police station on the morning of June 15, and was charged in connection with shoplifting incidents that occurred in August and September 2015 at TJ Maxx, a department store at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street, police said.

Police said they charged Lyons with two counts of sixth-degree larceny and with one count of conspiracy to commit fifth-degree larceny. Lyons was arraigned in court on the charges on June 15, police said.

Lyons was released for an upcoming court appearance.

Botsford Collision

Police report a two-car accident at the intersection of Dusty Lane and Botsford Hill Road about 7:18 pm on June 15.

Police said the collision involved motorist Alexa Bedini, 17, of 26 Meadowbrook Road, who was driving a 2008 Honda Civic, and motorist Bertha Fortin, 67, of Southbury, who was driving a 2010 Honda Accord.

Both drivers reported injuries, police said. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the accident, according to police. Bedini received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign, police said.

Lexus vs Lexus

About 10:30 am on June 16, motorist Catherine Pesavento, 66, of 52 Boggs Hill Road, who was driving a 2013 Lexus ES-350 sedan southward on South Main Street, stopped at a red traffic signal at Sand Hill Plaza's northern intersection with South Main Street, police report.

Southbound motorist Kimberly Stendahl, 56, of 9 Hanover Road, who was driving a 2011 Lexus RX-350 SUV, then struck the rear end of the sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Stendahl a written warning for traveling an unreasonable distance apart.

Point O' Rocks Crash

Police report a one-vehicle accident on Point 'O Rocks Road, a dirt/gravel road that links Deep Brook Road to Boggs Hill Road, at about 6 pm on June 16.

Police aid motorist Kevin Leibold, 24, of 7 Steck Drive, was driving a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck southward on Point 'O Rocks Road, when he lost control of the vehicle and then traveled off the right road shoulder.

The truck then struck a tree, reentered to roadway and overturned, landing on its passenger side, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Leibold an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

DUI Arrest

Police report that after observing motorist Margaret Trama, 56, of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., driving a 2015 Hyundai Elantra erratically, they stopped her near an intersection of Mt Pleasant Road and Blackman Road at about 8 pm on June 17 to investigate.

Police report they charged Trama with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right and making a restricted turn.

Following processing, Trama was released on $250 bail for a July 7 court appearance, police said.

Lost Control

At about 3:18 am on June 19, motorist Andrew Ricketts, 26, of Hartsdale, N.Y., was driving a 2015 Honda Accord eastward on Interstate 84, about 1,000 feet west of Exit 11, when he lost control of the vehicle and then struck some guardcabling on the highway median, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said Ricketts failed to maintain the proper lane.

Interstate DUI

State police said that motorist Patrick Parker, 46, of Waterbury was driving a vehicle on the rumble strip alongside eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, at about 4:30 am on June 19, after which they stopped Parker to investigate.

State police charged Parker with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane. Following arrest processing, state police released Parker on $500 nonsurety bail for a July 15 arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Incident

Police said they received a report about 11 am on June 22 concerning an erratic motorist driving a Nissan Sentra westward on Sugar Street, who struck a curbside residential mailbox along the right road shoulder and then continued driving.

Police said they located the driver in question at 214 Sugar Street and investigated, charging Courtney Passman, 22, of 76 Church Hill Road, with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn. After processing, police said they released Passman on $500 bail for a July 7 court appearance.

Police are seeking the owner of this heavy metallic statue of a boy walking while holding a toy truck in his left hand. The police tag attached to the boy's left wrist identifies the object as a found item. Police said that at about 8 am on Monday, June 20, a resident of a Farm Field Ridge Road home in Sandy Hook found the statue standing in their driveway, near the street. The dark brown statue is about 35 inches tall. Police, who are holding the statue for safekeeping, ask anyone with knowledge of the object's ownership to contact them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841. Police report that at about 4:45 pm on June 14, town police Officer Timothy Schoen, 30, who was driving a marked 2016 Ford police SUV, attempted to turn around on Elm Drive, just south of Sugar Street, but in doing so, Schoen backed into the front end of 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Shreya Bhattacharyya, 35, of Main Street.
