Sedan Vs Tree
Police said motorist Manuel Simoes, III, 28, of 48 Great Ring Road was driving a 2005 Hyundai Elantra sedan northward near 69 Great Ring Road about 6:09 am June 17, when while attempting to negotiate a sharp curve in the road to the left, Simoes applied the vehicleâs brakes but skidded about 50 feet and then collided with a large tree head-on.
Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members transported Simoes to Danbury Hospital for treatment of pain, police said. Sandy Hook firefighters responded to the scene. The accident is under investigation.
Church Hill Accident
Motorist Kristen Grimaldi, 26, of Paugussett Road was driving a 2009 Toyota station wagon eastward near 52 Church Hill Road about 4:40 pm June 9 and then stopped for traffic conditions, police said.
Eastbound motorist Rita Langenbach, 69, of Nunnawauk Meadows, who was driving a 1999 Saturn sedan behind the Toyota, then attempted to stop, but slid on the wet road and collided with the rear end of the Toyota, police said.
There were no injuries. Police issued Langenbach a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Intersection Collision
On June 4, motorist Valerie Frate, 40, of Russet Road, who was driving a 2005 Acura station wagon, was waiting at a red traffic signal on southbound Trades Lane, police said.
When the traffic signal changed from red to green, motorist Jenna Stuart, 22, of Roxbury, who was driving a commercial 2004 Ford van behind the Acura, accelerated and struck the rear end of the Acura, police said.
There were no injuries. Police issued Stuart a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Property Damage
At about 12:30 am on June 16, someone drove an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) onto property at 2 Quail Hollow Lane, off Philo Curtis Road, causing an estimated $100 worth of property damage, police report. Police ask anyone with knowledge of who vandalized the property to contact officer William Hull at the police station at 203-426-5841, or via e-mail at william.hull@newtown-ct.gov.
Noise Enforcement
Police reported this week that on June 5, they conducted a motor vehicle noise enforcement project on Glen Road, near its intersection with Walnut Tree Hill Road, in seeking to find motorcyclists who were creating excessive noise with their vehicles.
During that morning project, the traffic enforcement unit observed eight motorcyclists pass through the area, but none of them were creating excessive noise, police said.
Police warn that altering a motor vehicleâs muffler to create excessive noise will result in a $225 infraction ticket to the offender.
Queen Street
About 4:40 pm on June 15, motorist John Nickerson, 70, of 14 Sweet Meadow Road, who was driving a 1997 Chrysler Sebring convertible northward on Queen Street, attempted to turn right into a driveway at 5 Queen Street, but the vehicle struck some curbing, police report.
Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members went to the scene to check passenger Joan Nickerson, 69, of the same address, for minor injuries, police said. Hook & Ladder firefighters were dispatched to the accident.
Police said they issued John Nickerson an infraction for making a restricted turn.
South Main Accident
About 4:40 pm on June 16, motorist Imrych Michalamsky, 57, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet van southward near 151 South Main Street, stopped for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by southbound motorist Michael Carpino, 17, of Southbury, who was driving a 2005 Volkswagen sedan, police report.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Carpino for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Mailbox Crash
Motorist Sushil Gupta, 66, of 7 Lincoln Road was driving a 1996 Honda Accord sedan near 11 Mt Pleasant Road at about 5:20 pm June 14, when the vehicle veered to the right and struck a curbside residential mailbox at that address.
Gupta was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Interstate Crash
Motorist Lucy Hampton, 22, of Malvern, N.Y., was driving a 2003 Honda Civic eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 10, at about 4 pm June 18, when while traveling in the center lane of three lanes, the Honda struck a tire that was lying on the road, state police said.
There were no injuries. State police took no enforcement.
Three MV Charges
Police report they stopped motorist Thomas Santella, 21, of 12 Yearling Lane near 6 Old Farm Hill Road at about 12:47 pm on June 18 for a motor vehicle violation.
Police said that after investigating, they charged Santella with traveling unreasonably fast, driving with a suspended license, and with an automotive insurance violation.
 Santella was released on a written promise to appear in court on June 30.
PT Cruiser
At about 1:10 pm on June 16, motorist Carolyn Downing, 82, of Southbury, who was driving a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser, was making a right turn from Queen Street onto Church Hill Road, when Downing oversteered and became involved in a one-vehicle accident, police report.
Downing was not injured. Police issued her a written warning for making an improper right turn.
Ford Vs Ford
A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of South Main Street and Ethan Allen Road about 2:40 pm June 14.
Motorist Robert Virgalla, 59, of 10 Flintrock Trail, who was driving a 1997 Ford F-150 pickup truck, was attempting to make a left turn from a stop sign on westbound Ethan Allen Road onto southbound South Main Street, as motorist Gabriel Garcia, 25, of Monroe was driving a 2000 Ford Focus northward on South Main Street, police said.
The two Fords collided. Garcia was treated at the scene by ambulance volunteers for minor injuries, police said. Virgalla received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way, stated the police report.
Automotive Insurance
About 2 pm June 18, police investigated what they said appeared to be a disabled motor vehicle at the Exit 11 ramps of Interstate 84, off Wasserman Way.
After making a records check, police charged motorist Bonni Paz, 39, of Bridgeport with driving without automotive insurance. Police released Paz on a written promise to appear on June 21 in Danbury Superior Court.
Four Charges
Police said they responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on the evening of June 21 at 11 Park Lane.
Police said that after investigating, they charged motorist John Sikorski, 39, of 12 Park Lane with failure to grant the right of way, evading responsibility, misuse of a vehicle registration, and failure to have automotive insurance.
Police said they released Sikorski on $100 bail for a July 7 court appearance.
Main Street
Police report they spotted motorist Cody Marus, 19, of 25 Pepperidge Road driving 45 miles per hour in a posted 30-mph zone near Edmond Town Hall at about 6:30 am June 21, so they stopped him to investigate.
Police said they charged Marus with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and with possession of alcohol by a minor in a motor vehicle.
Marus was held on $2,500 bail for an appearance that day in Danbury Superior Court, police said.
Warrant
Police report they arrested Donna Catalano, 27, of Norwalk on a warrant on the night of June 21, lodging charges of theft of a credit card, illegal use of a credit card, and sixth-degree larceny.
After receiving a complaint from a local resident on February 16, police investigated a January 27 incident which led to Catalanoâs arrest.
Police released Catalano on a written promise to appear in court on July 2.
Computer Theft
Police report that someone stole a laptop computer from a home on Cider Mill Road sometime between 11 am and 3:30 pm on June 22. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact them at 203-426-5841.
Vandalism
Police are investigating reports that either late on the night of June 21 or during the early morning hours of June 22, someone damaged curbside residential mailboxes in the Hundred Acres Road area. Anyone with information about the criminal mischief is asked to contact police at the police station.
Eden Hill Road
Police report that a girl under age 18 was driving a golf cart southward near 39 Eden Hill Road about 1:18 pm June 19, when she turned the vehicle in order to avoid a bump in the road, but the golf cart rolled over, injuring both her and a passenger who also is under age 18.
Police did not provide the identities of the two youths.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported the youths to Danbury Hospital for treatment of abrasions, police said. Dodgingtown firefighters responded to the incident.
Police said they issued the golf cart driver an infraction.
DUI Arrest
About 3:34 pm June 19, motorist Charles Koch, 53, of 1 Sweet Meadow Road was driving an unspecified motor vehicle on Boggs Hill Road, near its intersection with Willow Brook Lane, when the vehicle collided with a utility pole, police report.
Following an investigation, police charged Koch with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right. Police released Koch on $100 bail for a July 1 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Dodgingtown firefighters went to the accident.
Driving Fast
While on speed enforcement patrol near 21 Swamp Road about 9:30 am June 23, police spotted motorist Nargess Rahmati, 63, of Brookfield driving 50 miles per hour in a 25-mph zone, so they stopped Rahmati.
Police charged Rahmati with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving with a suspended license.
Rahmati was released on a written promise to appear in court on July 7.
