Burglary

On June 25, police received a burglar alarm from a house on Gray’s Plain Road in Sandy Hook. On arriving, police found a door open. The burglar apparently gained entry by removing an air conditioner from a window mount and then going into the building through that window. Nothing was reported missing from the building. Police urge that window-mounted air conditioners be securely installed to deter entry. The incident is under investigation.

South Main Collision

About 9:22 am on June 23, motorist Alice Carboni, 68, of Danbury was driving a 2013 Jeep Wrangler SUV northward near 79 South Main Street, as motorist Steven Berg, 67, of Newtown was driving a 2011 Toyota RAV-4 SUV southward there, police said.

The Toyota then attempted to make a left turn to enter a commercial driveway, resulting in the two vehicles colliding. There were no injuries. Berg was verbally warned for a right-of-way violation, according to police.

Edmond Road

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Edmond Road about 2:40 pm on June 23 in the area where Wheels gas station has a driveway connecting to that street, police said.

The accident involved motorist Lawrence Snyder, 75, of Carlisle, Penn., who was driving a 2016 Nissan auto, and motorist Karen Darois, 60, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2010 Mazda 3 sedan.

There were no injuries. Snyder was verbally warned for a right-of-way violation.

SUV Vs Pickup

About 4 pm on June 23, motorist Merilee Costello, 44, of Longmeadow, Mass., who was driving a 2006 Subaru Forester SUV on eastbound Interstate 84, struck the rear end of a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by Robert Miller, 61, of Ovid, N.Y., state police said.

There were no injuries. Costello received an infraction for following too closely.

Highway Collision

State police report that motorist Abrahim Jeran, of Bronx, N.Y., who was driving a 2017 Toyota Camry sedan on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, about 4:23 pm on June 23, struck the rear rend of a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup, which was stopped for traffic and driven by John Birster, 50, of Lebanon, Penn.

There were no injuries. Jeran received a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Highway Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred on eastbound Interstate 84, about 250 feet west of the Exit 11 off-ramp, about 6:55 pm on June 23, involving a total of nine people.

A 2018 Audi Q-5 SUV carrying three passengers, which was driven by Srinivas Kotikalapudi, 45, of Auburndale, Mass., slowed for heavy traffic and was then struck from behind by motorist Lytfi Barolli, 28, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee carrying four passengers, state police said.

There were no injuries. Barolli received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

SUV Vs Mailbox

About 7:14 pm on June 23, motorist Jean Graffeo, 76, of Newtown, who was driving a 2014 Honda Pilot SUV on northbound Botsford Hill Road, turned left onto westbound Button Shop Road and then struck a curbside mailbox, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Graffeo a written warning.

Shoplifting Incident

Police said that after receiving a call from the Big Y supermarket about a theft in progress, they responded to the store at 6 Queen Street about 2:30 pm on June 22.

Police found Lawrence Liviosi, 29, of Morris, in a physical struggle with some store security staff following Liviosi’s attempt to leave the store with more than $100 worth of body wash without paying for the merchandise.

Police charged Liviosi with sixth-degree larceny, second-degree breach of peace, and possession of drug paraphernalia. After arrest processing and posting $1,000 bail, police released Liviosi for a July 9 court arraignment on the charges.

Four Violations

Police said that after spotting a vehicle which had improperly displayed marker plates, they stopped motorist Kimberly Guzman, 21, of Bridgeport, near 32 South Main Street about 8:30 am on June 21 to investigate.

Police charged Guzman with misuse of marker plates, failure to have automotive insurance, driving an unregistered vehicle, and driving with a suspended license. Guzman was released for a July 9 court appearance on the charges.

Church Hill Accident

About 8:48 pm on June 21, motorist Ryan Berard, 17, of Newtown, who was driving a 2011 Jeep Liberty SUV eastward near 51 Church Hill Road, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Jenny Lee, 39, of Shelton, who was driving a 2009 Honda CR-V SUV, police said.

Berard reported pain, but declined medical treatment. Lee received an infraction for traveling an unreasonable distance apart.

Six Charges

Police report that after receiving information that a vehicle traveling near the intersection of Dodgingtown Road and Shelley Road had a canceled registration, they stopped it at about 1 pm on June 21 to investigate.

Police charged motorist Tara Stanley, 32, of Danbury, with driving an unregistered vehicle, improper use of marker plates, failure to have automotive insurance, failure to have a driver’s license, possession of narcotics, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Stanley was released on a written promise to appear in court on July 11 to answer the charges.

Evading Responsibility

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Main Street, Currituck Road, and Summit Road about 5:42 pm on June 18.

In that incident, a woman who was driving a 2015 Nissan Rogue SUV made a right turn from Summit Road onto northbound Main Street and was then struck by a Jeep Liberty SUV driven by a man who was making a left turn from Currituck Road to southbound Main Street. There were no injuries.

The man initially stopped, but then drove away from the accident scene. Police searched for the Jeep that he was driving, but could not find it.

Swamp Road

About 5:13 pm on June 8, motorist Zoya Kozlovskaya, 67, of Bridgeport was driving a 2001 Honda CR-V SUV southward on Swamp Road, when a non-contact vehicle pulled out of a driveway, resulting in Kozlovskaya stopping suddenly, after which the Honda was struck from behind by a southbound 2019 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Christian Valentin, 32, of Bridgeport, police said.

There were no injuries. Valentin received a verbal warning for following too closely.
