Holiday Closings: Independence Day

NOTE (Tuesday, June 30, 2020): This post has been updated to reflect the correct closing plan for the Town of Newtown transfer station.

All town offices will be closed on Friday, July 3, the federal observance of Independence Day on Saturday, July 4.

Newtown Senior Center and C.H. Booth Library are still closed due to the pandemic.

Newtown Community Center will close at 4 pm Friday, and remain closed all day Saturday. It will reopen on Sunday.

Edmond Town Hall also remains closed. Its drive-in movie screen will be dark on Friday and Saturday, July 3-4; screenings will resume Sunday, July 5.

The transfer station will be closed Saturday, July 4. It will open on Monday, July 6, to everyone — not just contractors — at 7 am.

Mail will be delivered and picked up on Friday. There will be no regular mail delivery/pickup or retail services for the United States Postal Service on Saturday.

All Federal Reserve banks and branches (most banks) will also be closed on Saturday.

Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles offices will be open on Friday, July 3, from 7:45 am until 12:30 pm. They will be closed on Saturday, July 4.

The Bee Publishing Company offices will be closed on Friday, July 3. The office will reopen on Monday, July 6.

Many entities will have their hours affected due to the federal observation of Independence Day.
