Poet Laureate Deserves Support
To The Editor:
What a shame that no one from the 250th celebration committee, the Arts Council, or any Town government office found time on June 17 to attend the presentation at CH Booth Library by Newtown’s Poet Laureate Lauren Clifford.
It may be difficult for many to feel celebratory with so much unrest at the national level. But our town is lucky to have a poet laureate to celebrate special occasions in Newtown. Lauren’s works created especially for the country’s 250th birthday, focusing on lesser known historic heroes and heroines from Connecticut, were meant to be widely shared.
Life is busy for everyone —including our Poet Laureate. I hope future events for which she is asked to write and present her original works are better supported by the people who selected her for this position and by her fellow townspeople, as well.
