Longtime Republican Honored For Achievement

Longtime local Republican James J. Smith was honored by the Republican Party June 26 at the GOP-5 Brunch held at The Fireside Inn on South Main Street.

Governor M. Jodi Rell was the guest speaker at the event.

GOP-5 Chairman Vin Nolan of Danbury presented Mr Smith with a GOP-5 Congressional Committee 2005 Achievement Award.

Mr Smith was recognized for his service to the Newtown Republican Town Committee, the GOP-5 organization, and Connecticut Republicans.

He received a citation from the state’s General Assembly for his long, faithful service to the GOP.

Mr Smith is a former selectman, a former member of the Legislative Council, and a former Zoning Board of Appeals member. He has been a member of the Republican Town Committee for many years.
