Tercentennial Concert To Be Shown On Channel 21

The first tercentennial event at the Meeting House, a piano concert featuring Ryo Yanagitani which took place on May 1, will be broadcast on Channel 21 beginning July 5.

Volunteer John Kopins did the video work for CommuniTyVision 21.

For broadcasting, the tape was split into two parts of 45 minutes each. Part I is beginning to intermission, Part II is after intermission to the end. Each part is approximately 45 minutes in length and will be broadcast four times, as follows:

Part I: Tuesday, July 5 at 6 pm; Tuesday July 19 at 6 pm; Saturday, July 9 at 11:30 am; and Saturday, July 23 at 11:30 am. This part of the program includes Transcendental Etude #8 “Wild Hunt,” Franz Liszt (1811–1886); Prelude, Chorale and Fugue C, Franck (1822–1890); and Scherzo in B flat minor, Opus 38, Frédéric Chopin (1810–1849).

Part II: Tuesday, July 12 at 6 pm; Tuesday, July 26 at 6 pm; Saturday, July 16 at 11:30 am, and Saturday, July 30 at 11:30 am. This includes Prelude in D major, Opus 32 #4, Sergei Rachmaninov (1810–1849); Etude in A minor, Opus 39 #6, Sergei Rachmaninov Nocturne in C sharp minor, Opus post Frédéric Chopin; Waltz in A flat major, Opus 39 #15; Johannes Brahms (1833–1897); Clair de Lune, Claude Debussy (1862–1918); Piano Sonata no. 1, Opus 22, Alberto Ginastera (1916–1983).

Ryo Yanagitani, a native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, born in 1978, had his first piano lesson at age 7, and has taught privately since age 14. He graduated from the University of British Columbia with a bachelor’s degree in piano performance, and was twice endowed by the Canadian Arts Council with its Grants for Emerging Artists.

He has made concert appearances with the Vancouver Symphony, the Montreal Metropolitan Orchestra, the University of British Columbia Symphony Orchestra, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and as a soloist at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa and twice as guest soloist with the Hartford Symphony.  On March 13, 2005, Ryo placed third in the prestigious 10th Annual Hilton Head International Piano Competition.
