Fun For A Cause

To the Editor:

Newtown Youth Academy was busy Friday, June 25, from 4 to 8 pm. The kick-off event for the Newtown Light the Night saw parents and children having fun playing volleyball, basketball, jumping on the Bounce House. Thanks to Ken Green of the NYA and his staff who made the event run very smoothly.

I would also like to thank the following local merchants who were so generous with raffle items. We raised over $400. These are the merchants who gave raffle items: Andrea’s Pastry Shop, Sal e Pepe Restaurant, Ace Hardware, Monroe Cleaners, My Place Restaurant, Pizza Palace, Ice Cream Shop, Villariana’s Pasta Shop, Carminuccio’s Pizza, Black Swan Stove Shop, Newtown Florist, Newtown Car Wash, Olympia Sports, Franco’s Pizza, Your Healthy Pet, Avance Esthetiques, Quality Gem Jewelers, Ferris Acres Creamery, Associated Refuse Haulers, and Skip Roberts. A special thanks to Newtown Deli for donating a portion of the food sales.

The Light the Night Walk will take place on Saturday, September 25, at the Newtown Youth Academy/Fairfield Hills. The funds raised go the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for research and patient care. Do you know that every four minutes someone in the United States is diagnosed with a blood cancer? Did you know that every ten minutes someone dies from a blood cancer?

We know how much help the L&L Society gives. Our son, Greg, lost his battle with AML on October 26, 2000. Greg was 17 years old. Help us help find a cure. Together we can make a difference. Go to www.lighthtenight.org/ct or call 203-427-2062. You can start a team or join established teams.

You see, it is Nicer in Newtown.

Sincerely,

John & Ginny Chion
