Join The Fill-A-Bus Food Drive

There are many citizens in Newtown in need of help. Ann Piccini, the director of Social Aervices in Newtown, is who they turn to. Most of the citizens of Newtown know of the Postal Food Drive that is held in May each year. This is the main source of food for the food bank in Social Services. This drive usually gets them through most of the year (with the additional donations that come in during the year to supplement).

Do you remember the rain we had that day last May? The volunteers working on that food drive do. Between the rain and the economy, the food drive came in way below past drives.

Ann has had many new clients using the food pantry. She estimates that her supply, without additional help, will be gone in August. So Ann asked if I could help. She asked if it would be possible to do a fill-the-bus drive. Of course, I said yes.

We set the date for Saturday, July 10, from 8 am till 2 pm. A bus will be at Stop & Shop and at Big Y. Caraluzzi’s Newtown Market will have bins by its entrances starting Saturday, July 3, to help us kick off our fill-the-bus campaign. We are hopeful that our community will consider adding something to their shopping cart to help us fill the bus.

Newtown is a great place to live. The economy has affected all of us in some way or another. This is an easy, convenient way to help someone that has been hit a little bit harder than you.
