Occupation: I am a statistician, and I work for a cycling sports group in Wilton. We own the bike lines for Cannondale, Schwinn, GT, and Mongoose.

Family: My wife Jill and I have been married for 19 years. Our son Jackson is 10, and our daughter Sadie is 8 years old.

Pets: We have Willow, our cat. She’s 15 years old, and she sleeps a lot.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We moved to Newtown in 2000, and we’re in our second house now.

What do you like to do in your free time? I’m a musician in a small chamber group. I play saxophone and clarinet. I have run the entire Cub Scouts for Middle Gate and Head O’ Meadow Schools for the past two years; I passed that on in June. The other thing I do, my brother-in-law and I own abut 30 acres in Wisconsin, where he lives. We grow hops and sell them to breweries, mainly microbreweries in the Midwest. I’m the distance guy, so I do the financial and marketing and that kind of thing. It does eat up a lot of the spare time.

What kind of music do you listen to? I listen to jazz more than any other kind of music. My favorite is Thelonious Monk. Not being a piano player myself, I’ve loved the music he’s put out over the years. I always have music on at my desk, or in the car, or anywhere. I need music to function.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? There’s an inn in Arlington, Vt., called the West Mountain Inn. My wife and I try to go there as often as we can. It’s a tiny place with rocking chairs on the porch and llamas in back. It’s nice to just sit there and breathe the fresh air.

What is the best thing about Newtown? The people are wonderful. We would never consider being anywhere else. My son and I, on weekends, try to get to the General Store for the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. I can get him to go on any errand with me, if the General Store is the first stop. We like to sit on the porch there and watch the cars to by, and see the flagpole. And then there’s the Ferris Farm Creamery. We’re there more often than we should be.

What has been the greatest influence in your life? In general, it’s music. I take so much out of music, day to day, whether it’s the lyrics or how it makes me feel. It can change my mood in a heartbeat. I’ve been playing music since I was in elementary school.

Did you have a favorite toy, growing up? The one that sticks in my mind is the Evel Knievel toy that sat on a base. You’d turn the crank and he’d shoot across the room on the motorcycle. I’d play with it for hours.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? I don’t think there’s such a thing in our house as a half eaten bag of potato chips. If they’re there, they are eaten. I try not to have them in the house.
