Logan Named Executive Director

Of The Homesteads At Newtown

Joanne Logan of Newtown has been appointed as executive director of The Homesteads at Newtown. She will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of program and financial operations, including the planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and improvement of program services, as well as hiring and managing staff.

Ms Logan comes to The Homesteads at Newtown from Harborside Healthcare in Danbury, where she served as a clinical social worker for the nursing and rehabilitation facility. She also has held case worker and crisis counselor positions at Glen Hill Convalescent Center and the Women’s Center, both in Danbury. She holds a master’s degree in social work from Fordham University and a bachelor of science from St Joseph College.

“Joanne has more than 13 years of clinical experience as well as a strong commitment to assisted living,” said Dr Morton Silberstein, chairman and owner of The Homesteads at Newtown. “A resident of Newtown for 33 years, she will be instrumental in the creation, growth, and success of our new preeminent, full-service assisted living and condominium community.”

Located on 60 acres on Route 6 in Hawleyville, The Homesteads at Newtown provides condominiums for people ages 55 and over and assisted living rentals. It will provide a complete continuum of personal assistance and a wide array of amenities on a secure, professionally staffed campus.

In addition to service as executive director at The Homesteads at Newtown, Ms Logan is an adult children bereavement group counselor for Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers; New York State Society for Clinical Social Work, Inc.; and a member of the Business and Professional Women Association.

“Now more than ever, there is a real need for a community that provides quality life experience for the changing needs of seniors,” Ms Logan said. “I am looking forward to the challenges and opportunities presented by the creation of The Homesteads at Newtown.”

Phase I of the three-phase planned community – a 100-unit assisted living facility – is scheduled to open this fall. A model unit is scheduled to open early this month. The assisted living community will offer studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments, all with aid in bathing, dressing, mobility, medication reminders, and other services. There will be a separate wing of special care units, GardenWalk, for residents with Alzheimer’s or memory impairment. GardenWalk will feature its own enclosed, landscaped courtyard with walking path, and its own dining room.

The first of the Phase II condominiums for persons 55 and up will be available for occupancy in September. The Homesteads at Newtown is owned by Dr Morton and Linda Silberstein of Guilford. The Silbersteins also own Gladeview Health Care Center in Old Saybrook, a 132-bed fully accredited nursing home and rehabilitation center.
