Salvation Army Will

Pick Up Donations

BRIDGEPORT — The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center is seeking donations of gently used adult and children’s clothing, furniture, toys, and small household goods to sell in its three Family Thrift Stores in Bridgeport and Danbury.

All store proceeds support the center’s residential rehabilitation program for men who want to turn their lives around after chronic homelessness, substance abuse, unemployment, or legal problems.

“The program, which is free to participants, spends about $17,000 to restore each man to his family and community,” said Captain Patrick O’Gara, administrator of the center at 1313 Connecticut Avenue in Bridgeport. “Donated items immediately go into our stores, giving shoppers real value for their dollars. In turn, every dollar raised helps a man reclaim his life and become a functioning member of his community again.”

The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center ministries provide a residential rehabilitation program with a focus on basic necessities. Each year several hundred men, predominantly from Fairfield County, are given a clean and healthy living environment, good food, work therapy, leisure-time activities, group and individual counseling, spiritual direction, and resources to assist them to develop life skills.

Traveling throughout Connecticut, The Salvation Army’s trucks will pick up donations, from a single bag of clothing or a piece of furniture, at no charge and leave a receipt for tax purposes. Donors can also drop clothing donations into the white Salvation Army collection boxes found in many parking lots throughout the state. Items should be clean and in good condition, so shoppers will want to purchase them.
