July 4th Weekend DUI Enforcement
Sergeant Douglas Wisentaner said town police will have extra patrol officers on duty during the Fourth of July holiday weekend on the lookout for drunken drivers.
Extra officers will conduct roving evening patrols seeking out intoxicated drivers through Sunday, July 6.
A federal highway safety grant program will cover 75 percent of the police overtime costs for the added DUI patrols.
The extra patrols are designed to reduce the number of driving injuries and fatalities stemming from drunken driving, the sergeant said.
Publicizing the increased DUI enforcement is intended to deter intoxicated people from driving, according to the sergeant.
