Trespassing Charges

Police received a call about 11:25 pm on June 25 alerting them that some suspicious vehicles had parked at Reed Intermediate School at 3 Trades Lane. Several youths had exited the vehicles and entered the adjacent Fairfield Hills property, police said.

Police said that as they searched the area, the youths returned to their vehicles. Police said they then charged a total of five youths with simple trespassing for being in the area after it had closed for the day.

Each charged with simple trespassing were Kevin McQueeny, 20, of Ansonia, and Steven Treschitta, 18, of Monroe, police said.

Additionally, police charged three “youthful offenders” with simple trespassing. Youthful offenders are people either 16 or 17 years old whose identities are shielded from disclosure by state law because they are charged with criminal offenses while under age 18.

The infractions issued for simple trespassing carry $92 fines. The charges are appealable in court.

DUI Incident

Police report they responded to Mile Hill Road South at about 6:45 pm June 26 after receiving a report that there had been a one-car accident there.

On arriving at the accident scene, police found physical evidence that a vehicle had driven off the northbound road shoulder and then collided with an earthen embankment and stone wall, after which the driver drove from the scene.

At about that time, police spotted a 1992 Nissan 240-SX traveling northward on Queen Street. The Nissan had a damaged front passenger side including a blown-out tire, according to police. The auto was traveling on its rim, police said.

Police said they stopped the Nissan on The Boulevard to investigate. Police said they determined that the driver, Rebecca Anderson, 32, of Bridgewater was under the influence of alcohol.

Police said they brought in their German shepherd to search the auto and the dog led them to a “green leafy substance” in the vehicle.

Police arrested Anderson on charges of driving under the influence, evading responsibility, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, driving without a license, driving with unsafe tires, and making a restricted turn.

Police released Anderson on $250 bail for a July 10 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

Church Hill Collision

Police report a two-car collision about 11 am June 25 on a section of Church Hill Road which has a high accident rate.

Motorist Jane Endler, 61, of New York City was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry sedan westward and was attempting to make a left turn into the driveway of the Blue Colony Diner at 66 Church Hill Road, as motorist Brian Gordon, 36, of Oxford was driving a 2004 Nissan Sentra sedan eastward on Church Hill Road, police said.

The two vehicles then collided. There were no injuries. Endler received a written warning for making a restricted turn.

DUI Crashes

At about 8:45 pm June 26, motorist Joseph Procaccini, 54, of Old Town Road, who was driving a 1999 Toyota van southward on South Main Street, turned right onto Cold Spring Road, but collided with a stop sign there, after which the van drove onto the lawn at 280 South Main Street and smashed into a wooden sign, police said.

The Toyota then drove back onto Cold Spring Road and traveled for about one-quarter mile before it went off the right side of the street and smashed into a stone wall, police said.

Procaccini was treated at the scene for a facial injury but refused transport to a hospital, police said.

Police said they gave Procaccini field sobriety tests, after which they charged him with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, making a restricted turn, and making an improper turn. Procaccini posted $100 bail for a July 10 court appearance.

Motorcycle

Motorcyclist James R. Marshall, 21, of St Johnsbury, Vt., was driving a 1999 Harley-Davidson XL-883-C Sportster Custom northward near 30 Equestrian Ridge Road about 10 pm June 25, when a deer entered the road, police said.

Marshall braked to avoid the animal, but lost control of the vehicle and fell to the right, police said. Ambulance staffers treated Marshall at the scene for a wrist injury. Police took no enforcement.

Boulevard Accident

Motorist Benjamin Stokes, 17, of Osborne Hill Road was driving a 1998 Subaru station wagon southward near 55 The Boulevard when Stokes failed to negotiate a very sharp curve in the road, crossed the street and then collided with some guardrailing along the left road shoulder at about 12:35 am June 24, police report.

The Boulevard has two very sharp curves in that area at a bridge where it crosses above the Housatonic Railroad’s freight line.

Stokes was not injured. Police gave him a written warning for failure to drive to the right.

Chevy Vs Ford

While traveling eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, about 5:40 pm June 26, motorist Patrice McDermott, 55, of University Park, Md., who was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander, drove into the rear end of an eastbound 1999 Ford pickup truck driven by Timothy Blakeman, 43, of 57 Pond Brook Road, who had stopped for traffic conditions, state police said.

Blakeman reported back pain as a result of the accident but refused medical attention, state police said. McDermott received an infraction for failure to maintain a safe distance.

Chain Reaction

State police report a three-vehicle chain reaction crash in heavy traffic on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, about 8:30 am June 24.

In that incident, motorist Aida Ortiz-Diaz, 48, who was driving a Toyota Sienna minivan, drove into the rear end of a 2006 Honda Civic driven by Jessica Alavrez, 26, of Plainville, pushing the Honda into the rear end of a Lexus RX-330 SUV driven by Elizabeth Browne, 48, of Wolcott, state police said.

Newtown ambulance volunteers transported Alvarez to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, state police said. Ortiz-Diaz received an infraction for following too closely.

Highway Collision

About 2 pm June 22, motorist Rachel Fossum, 17, of 14 Nelson Lane, who was driving a 2000 Toyota 4-Runner, was merging onto westbound Interstate 84 from the Exit 9 on-ramp, when the Toyota went out of control and spun about, colliding with motorist Juillian Gershon, 26, of Dunmore, Penn, who was driving a 2008 Chevrolet on the highway, state police said. There were no injuries, according to state police.

Fairfield Hills

Police report that someone sometime between 7:30 am on June 21 and 7:30 am on June 28, illegally forcibly entered a house at Fairfield Hills that formerly was used by hospital staff members. The house is known as #57. It is located in the area behind Norwalk Hall. The crimes committed are third-degree criminal trespassing and third-degree criminal mischief. Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact Officer Steven Borges at the police station at 426-5841.

I-84 SUV Rollover

About 4:50 am June 28, motorist Trisia Hernandez, 25, of Waterbury was driving a 2002 Lincoln Navigator SUV westward on Interstate 84, near the Exit 9 interchange, when the vehicle for some reason went onto the road’s median and then crossed back across the two westbound lanes, climbed an embankment along the right road shoulder and rolled over several times before coming to rest, state police said.

A witness saw the accident occur, according to state police. Hawleyville and Hook & Ladder firefighters responded to the scene to extricate Hernandez from the wreckage.

Ambulance staffers transported Hernandez to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries. Hernanadez was listed in critical condition on July 1 by a hospital spokeswoman.

Theft From Vehicle

Sometime on June 29, someone forcibly broke through the front passenger window of a vehicle parked on Taunton Lake Road, near the southwest shore of the lake, and stole a variety of items from within the vehicle, police said.

The items stolen include two Apple-brand iPod Nano digital music players, a Garmin-brand Nuvi Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation device, sunglasses, some compact discs, and a bubble-making machine, police report.

Police are investigating the case of fourth-degree larceny and third-degree criminal mischief and ask anyone with information on the theft/vandalism to contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841.

DUI Arrest

Police said that at about 1:24 am on July 3, they stopped a motorist who was driving on South Main Street, near Blue Spruce Drive, because his vehicle was not keeping to the right side of the road.

After investigating, police charged motorist Bryan Duch, 32, of Monroe with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right. Police held Duch on $100 bail for arraignment later that day in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Charge

About 10:26 pm June 30, police received a report that a motorist was driving erratically southward on South Main Street, near that road’s intersection with Mile Hill Road, so they went to the area to investigate.

Police said they then stopped motorist Keith Eldridge, 43, of Shelton near 188 South Main Street to investigate because they spotted an object hanging from his vehicle’s interior rear-view mirror, which obstructed the view of the road.

After investigating, police charged Eldridge with driving under the influence and with driving with an obstructed view. Eldridge posted $500 bail and was released for a July 15 court appearance.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Julio Villa, 39, of Danbury came to the police station on the evening of July 2 and was charged with failure to have automotive insurance, police report.

The charge stems from a motor vehicle accident that occurred last November 26, police said. Police released Villa on a written promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on July 16.
