Restricted Turn

Newtown Police report Christian Fuentes, 31, of Bethel, operating a 1997 Harley-Davidson XI1200, was traveling eastbound on Wasserman Way at 1:03 pm June 13. Fuentes lost control of the vehicle and veered off the roadway right, struck a curb, and was ejected from the vehicle, landing face-first on the roadway.

Fuentes was transported to Danbury Hospital with suspected serious injuries. The vehicle was towed.

Fuentes was issued a verbal warning for making a restricted turn.

Hit And Run Incident

Newtown Police report that a 2021 Alfa Romero Stelvio owned by Terry Jackson of Newtown was parked unoccupied in a space at 266 South Main Street at 6:53 pm June 14. Jackson and a passenger returned to the vehicle and left, only to notice damage to the vehicle upon arrival at a different location. The two returned to the same parking spot and notified police.

Officers investigated and though an officer looked into whether the vehicle parked in the adjacent spot may have been responsible, there were no cameras and insufficient evidence of what transpired. The other vehicle was dark colored and paint chips on the damaged vehicle were white, and the suspected vehicle had no visible damage.

The case was closed pending new information.

Struck Guardrail

Newtown Police report Sung Uk Kim, 49, of New Haven, operating a 2008 Honda Civic, was traveling northbound on Mt Pleasant Road at 6:15 am June 23. While negotiating a left curve, the vehicle slipped on the wet roadway to the right and struck a guardrail.

Kim reported a possible injury but declined medical attention. The vehicle was towed.

Kim was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Skidding On Wet Pavement, Hit Car

Newtown Police report Peter Vodola, 62, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2020 Freightliner Sprinter, was traveling southbound on Toddy Hill Road at 2:12 pm June 23. He was traveling behind a 2018 Mazda CX-5 operated by Fernanda Gutierrez, 31, of Newtown, who was stopped in the southbound travel lane. Vodola attempted to stop but skidded on wet pavement and rear-ended Gutierrez's vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Vodola was issued a written warning for following too close.

Following Too Close

Newtown Police report Anthony Femia, 36, of Southbury, operating a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 3:09 pm June 23. He was traveling behind a 2025 Lexus NX 350 operated by Elizabeth Heatter. 43, of Oxford, which stopped for traffic ahead. Femia did not stop in time and rear-ended Heatter's vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Femia was issued a written warning for following too close.

DUI Charge

Newtown Police report that officers responded to Main Street for the report of a minor motor vehicle collision at 5:31 pm June 23. Upon arrival, a criminal investigation was conducted, which resulted in the arrest of John Mazzeo, 33, of Monroe, who was charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and following too close.

Mazzeo was released on a $1,000 non-surety bond with a court date of July 7 in Danbury Superior Court.

Accord Strikes Forester

Newtown Police report Juan Fernandez, 38, of Brookfield, operating a 1997 Honda Accord, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 6 pm June 23. He was traveling behind a 2022 Subaru Forester operated by Nancy Adams, 64, of Southbury. Adams began to slow down and then stop, and Fernandez struck the rear of Adams' vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed.

Fernandez was issued an infraction for following too close.

DUI Arrest

Newtown Police report that on June 24, John Petch, 32, of Newtown, turned himself in to Newtown Police Department on an active warrant for his arrest. Petch was taken into custody and charged with traveling unreasonably fast, illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and failure to drive in the proper lane.

Petch was released on a promise to appear with a court date of July 7 in Danbury Superior Court.

Hit Railroad Bridge

Newtown Police report Nicole Beaudreaux, 57, of Acworth, Ga., operating a 2023 Freightliner box truck, was traveling westbound on Botsford Hill Road approaching the rail bridge at 11:35 am June 24. The top of the box truck struck the bridge.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

Beaudreaux was issued a verbal warning for failure to obey height requirements.

Evaded One Car, Hit Another

Newtown Police report Allan Lewis, 58, of Woodbury, operating a 2022 Ram Big Horn, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 1:53 pm June 24. He was traveling behind Michael Gottschalk, 56, of Newtown, operating a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. A non-contact vehicle entered the road from a driveway in front of Lewis, who attempted to evade, but struck Gottschalk's vehicle instead.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Car Hit While At Work

Newtown Police report Debbie Hicks of Newtown returned to her 2010 Honda Ridgeline, which was parked at a business on South Main Street from 8 am to 3 pm, at 4:56 pm June 24. When she returned to her vehicle, she observed a dent with black paint transfer on the front passenger side fender.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

The case is currently closed pending further information.

Start And Stop Leads To Collision

Newtown Police report Chirag Talati, 33, of Danbury, operating a 2022 Honda Pilot, was stopped on Wasserman Way in the rightmost travel lane, waiting to turn right onto Berkshire Road, at 6:09 pm June 24. He was stopped behind a 2021 Jeep Compass operated by John Kantzas, 65, of Monroe. Kantzas started to move forward, but stopped to yield to traffic on Berkshire Road, and Talati rear-ended Kantzas' vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Talati was given a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Struck By Deer

Newtown Police report James Muthersbaugh, 63, of Bethel, operating a 2008 Chevrolet Equinox, was traveling northeast on Elm Drive at 4:19 pm June 25. A deer ran into the road and struck Muthersbaugh's vehicle.

Muthersbaugh was not injured. The vehicle was not towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Slowed For Turn, Rear-Ended

Newtown Police report Jamil Grant, 28, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., was traveling southbound on Main Street at 4:45 pm June 26. He was traveling behind a 2021 Volvo Xc60 operated by Kristin Ryan, 41, of Sandy Hook. Ryan slowed to turn left onto Schoolhouse Hill Road and was rear-ended by Grant's vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Grant's vehicle was towed.

Grant was issued a written warning for following too close.

Collision In Parking Lot

Newtown Police report Leyna Woolsey, 16, of New Fairfield, operating a 2018 Honda Pilot, was traveling northbound in a parking lot on Sugar Street at 7:56 pm June 26. An unoccupied 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee owned by Joseph Szulewski was parked in the same lot. Woolsey struck Szulewski's vehicle as she was driving past it, as there was a patron walking in the same area. Woolsey said she didn't realize she struck the vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken as the incident occurred on private property.

Rear Ended On South Main

Newtown Police report Israel Samaniego, 26, of Brewster, N.Y., operating a 2020 Chevrolet Camaro, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 9:06 am June 28. He was traveling behind a 2017 Subaru Forester operated by Paul Fadus, 69, of Newtown, which was stopped in traffic. Samaniego rear-ended Fadus' vehicle.

A passenger in Fadus' vehicle was evaluated on scene for a possible injury but declined transport. Neither vehicle was towed.

Samaniego was issued a written warning for following too close.
