The opening day of the 41st Friends of the C.H. Booth Library Book Sale took place on Saturday, July 9. Local residents, as well as avid book collectors from all over Connecticut, lined up outside of Reed Intermediate School early in the morning to get their admissions ticket and get a prime spot in line.boothbooksale.org, or call the library at 203-426-4533.More photos and an expanded story can be found in the July 15, 2016 print edition of the Newtown Bee.

Many attendees carried multiple bags, crates, and boxes anticipating filling them up with the books, CDs, DVDs, and LPs that were being sold.

Tables full of these items filled Reed Intermediate School's cafetorium, gymnasium, main lobby, and room 201.

C.H. Booth Library Book Sale Chairperson Denise Kaiser spoke to the group of roughly 50 volunteers before doors opened and gave a motivational pep talk.

During her speech, she got the crowd laughing as she put on purple fairy wings, a butterfly embellished headband, and held a sparkly wand. Once adorned with her outfit she turned to the volunteers and said, "There is magic associated with this book sale.

"You guys made the magic yourselves," Ms Kaiser continued, "and it's up to you to continue the magic."

At 9 am, the doors were opened and the line that had stretched around the building's front sidewalk began flooding in through the school's entrance.

Upon entering, many people began running excitedly towards their specific destinations and volunteers gave friendly reminders to please walk.

Newtown resident Miryam Wilson has been going to the book sale for the past three years. As a current college student, she said she purposefully makes time to come home to attend the event.

"I'm looking to come across whatever I am meant to come across. I don't have anything particular in mind," said Ms Wilson. "Every year that I come here I find something really amazing."

The 41st Friends of the C.H. Booth Library Book Sale will continue until noon on Wednesday, July 13. All items are half-priced on Monday, a bag of items will cost just $5 on Tuesday, and everything will be free on Wednesday.
