A banner, signed by local community members, was sent to Moore, Okla., on Monday, July 8, with words of support.

The banner was made and donated by Unlimited Signs Designs & Graphics in Brookfield, and was a combined effort between Monroe Police Department Officer Todd Keeping and his wife Lisa, who are also Newtown residents.

After Sandy Hook School students and staff found a home in Monroe’s Chalk Hill Middle School, 500 rubber ducks arrived as a donation for the school community. That donation went on to inspire a duck craze, after Officer Keeping and then-Monroe Police Department Officer Mike Panza decided to place the rubber ducks around the school for students.

By February, Officer Keeping told The Bee, “They just continue to want more of them. It’s become a big thing.”

Since then the “ducks” have been chronicling their adventures on Facebook while inspiring smiles at Sandy Hook School.

On Monday, Officer Keeping posted a photo of the banner, complete with signatures, to “The Ducks of Sandy Hook Elementary” Facebook page along with an explanation.

“The banner was signed by the Sandy Hook and Newtown community to offer love and support to the Moore community, following the tornado and the tragic loss of life and property,” Officer Keeping wrote. “…Our thoughts and prayers are with you Moore as you all are recovering from this tragedy. Stay Moore Strong and God bless you all!”

Along with a photo of a Sandy Hook School rubber duck and a green ribbon, the banner also shows the state flags of Connecticut and Oklahoma and the words “hope, strength, healing, and prayers.”
