Fraud And Forgery

Newtown Police report that a five-month-long investigation into allegations of a certified nursing assistant (CNA) who stole and misappropriated money from the bank accounts of elderly clients has ended in the arrest of Dominga Bush, 54, of Bridgeport.

Bush was charged with first-degree larceny and third-degree forgery.

Newtown police detectives applied for an arrest warrant for Bush, which was granted by Danbury Superior Court on June 23. Bush was processed by police and released after posting a $50,000 surety bond, with a court date of July 19 at Danbury Superior Court.

Struck Stone Wall

Newtown Police report Matthew Broomer, 19, of Newtown, operating a 2013 Audi A4, was traveling southbound on Taunton Hill Road at 9:56 pm June 23. Police say Broomer lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer across the oncoming northbound lane, proceed into the roadside embankment, and then strike a stone wall before coming to rest on its driver’s side in the roadway.

Newtown Ambulance and Dodgingtown Fire Company responded. Broomer was transported to Danbury Hospital for a suspected minor injury. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage.

Enforcement action is pending investigation.

Hit Oncoming Car

Newtown Police report Jacqueline Tavoletti, 21, of Southbury, operating a 2013 Honda Accord, was traveling southbound on Botsford Hill Road at the intersection of Swamp Road at 3:13 pm June 27. Melissa St. Pierre, 40, of Middlebury, operating a 2018 BMW X5, was traveling northbound on Botsford Hill Road in the same area. Police say Tavoletti attempted to turn left onto Swamp Road and the front end of Tavoletti’s vehicle struck the front end of St. Pierre’s vehicle. Both vehicles came to rest in the southbound travel lane of Botsford Hill Road, north of Swamp Road.

Tavoletti was issued an infraction for making an improper turn.

Collision In Intersection

Newtown Police report Andrew Engels, 56, of Newtown, operating a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado, was traveling westbound on Meadowbrook Road at 3:50 pm June 28. Dalton Blair, 40, of Monroe, operating a 2011 Jeep Compass, was traveling southbound on Huntingtown Road. As Blair was making a left from the southbound lane of Huntingtown Road into the eastbound lane of Meadowbrook Road, Police say Engels pulled out from the westbound lane of Meadowbrook Road into the southbound lane of Huntingtown Road, causing his vehicle to collide with the driver’s side of Blair’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Blair’s vehicle was towed.

Engels was issued a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way at an intersection.

Honda Vs Honda

Newtown Police report Zulmira Silvia, 75, of Newtown, operating a 2019 Honda CR-V, was turning left off the Exit 9 I-84 westbound off-ramp at 7:26 pm June 28. Silvia’s vehicle was struck by a 2005 Honda Accord operated by Emily Colindres, 22, of Danbury, who was traveling southbound on Hawleyville Road.

No injuries were reported.

Silvia was issued a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.

Hit Vehicle While Passing

Newtown Police report Ryan Orell, 18, of Sherman, operating a 2006 Honda Pilot, was traveling south on Main Street at 12:10 pm July 1. Juan Salas, 45, of Stratford, operating a 2016 Nissan NV1500, was stopped at the stop sign at Church Hill Road at Main Street. Southbound traffic stopped to allow Salas to cross over Main Street onto West Street. Police say Orell attempted to pass the southbound traffic on the right as Salas crossed. The front bumper of Orell’s vehicle struck the right front bumper of Salas’ vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Orell was issued a written warning for passing on the right.

Following Too Close

Newtown Police report Steven Berg, 70, of Newtown, operating a 2021 Chevrolet TRX, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 10:23 am July 5. Berg was traveling behind a 2014 Ford Explorer operated by Virgil Procaccini, 25, of Fairfield. Procaccini slowed for traffic and Berg did not stop in time, striking the rear of Procaccini’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Berg was given a verbal warning for following too close.

Arrested On DUI Charge

Newtown Police report Amanda Kappes, 27, of Danbury, was arrested at 2:17 pm July 5 on the charges of illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive in the proper lane. She was released on a $1,000 bond with a court date of July 18 at Danbury Superior Court.
