Newtown Salvation Army is hoping for another successful summer event.

Two years after its first Christmas In July bell ringing campaign, the local chapter is planning a similar effort. Bell ringers are sought for 60-minute time slots, for locations around town, planned for Saturday, July 24.

While there are no mandated COVID restrictions, organizers point out that masks are optional.

Best of all, there is no need for mittens, heavy coats, or warm hats during this bell ringing campaign.

The singing or playing of Christmas carols, however, is optional and encouraged.

As with prior proceeds, 90%of everything collected in Newtown will go to the town’s Department of Social Services. This month’s campaign is earmarked to support the local Salvation Army’s traditional back-to-school purchase of school supplies that are put into backpacks. Funds will additionally support residents who need assistance.

Bell ringers will be stationed at Bagel Delight, Bottle Stop, Dunkin, Newtown General Store, both entrances of Stop & Shop, and Yankee Wine & Liquors. All ringing will conclude by 4 pm.
