C.H. Booth Library will host three virtual author programs from the end of July to early August.

The first is "Make Protein Goals Easy (and Satisfying!)" with dietitian Rachael DeVaux on Wednesday, July 29, from 2-4 pm. DeVaux is the New York Times bestselling author of Rachael's Good Eats.

She will talk about her newest book, The High Protein Plate, which shows how anyone at any stage of life can easily incorporate protein into their diet. Protein builds muscle, fuels hormones, and supports every organ, leaving people satisfied and energized the more protein they eat.

In addition to being an author and registered dietitian, DeVaux is also a certified personal trainer and entrepreneur who built a loyal audience of over a million people through her website and Instagram by sharing practical, science-backed guidance on food, fitness, and feeling good.

The second virtual author talk is "The Legacy of Julia Child's Kitchen" with author and Smithsonian curator Paula J. Johnson on Tuesday, August 4, from 2-4 pm. It will delve into the legacy of cooking icon Julia Child as presented by Johnson, who is the author of Julia Child’s Kitchen: The Design, Tools, Stories, and Legacy of an Iconic Space.

The book includes interviews with chefs who knew Child well, commentary on her favorite culinary tools and kitchen gadgets, and a stunning array of photos. The virtual author talk will give serious home cooks and fans of Child insight into her mid-century homey kitchen and the parts and pieces inside it.

Johnson was one of the curators who collected Child’s home kitchen in 2001 and led the team that created FOOD: Transforming the American Table, a multi-layered exhibition that explores the major changes in food production, distribution, and consumption in the United States since the 1950s.

The final virtual author talk is "Preserving the Seasons: The Art of Canning, Jamming, and More" with author and cook Holly Capelle on Thursday, August 6 from 2-4 pm. In her new book, Preserving the Seasons, Capelle offers a comprehensive guide to canning, jamming, infusing, drying, dehydrating, pickling, and more.

The author talk invites people to connect with their food like never before by diving into the art of preserving. Capelle will talk about and provide insight into her book, which provides clear and safe best practices for preserving herbs, fruit, vegetables, and edible flowers. It also includes simple and safe methods for jamming, infusing, drying, dehydrating, freezing, freeze-drying, and quick-pickling.

Capelle, who has more than three decades of culinary experience, is a passionate home cook, dedicated food preservationist, and advocate for sustainable living. She is the founder of @BigFamilyLiving, an online community for people who like to preserve, create, cook, and garden.

These are the most recent virtual author talks that C.H. Booth Library has planned to host, done in partnership with the Library Speakers Consortium. Each event will include the opportunity for people to ask questions.
