Eileen E. Gallo, 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 25, 2022. Eileen was a long-time resident of Sandy Hook, born in Winsted, Conn.

She is survived by her best friend, constant comfort, and husband of 53 years, Albert Gallo. Eileen leaves behind memories with her daughter, Sarah Gallo Becker and partner John Brennen, her children, Oliver, Veronica, and Rylee; her son, Michael Gallo and wife Elizabeth, their children, Ryan and Derek; and daughter, Emily Spikoski and husband Steven, their children, Owen and Spencer. Eileen is also survived by her sister, Mary Walston; her brother Tim Wheeler; and many other extended family members.

She is predeceased by her brothers Jim Wheeler and Leon “Skip” Wheeler.

Her family, especially her seven grandchildren, was her pride and joy; she loved spending time with them all.

Eileen graduated from the University of Connecticut and Fordham University, spending many years as an educator, social worker, and florist. She was an avid and devoted member of Saint Rose of Lima parish for decades; her gardening around the church was treasured. Her passion for plants was unmatched. Eileen had the greenest thumb imaginable. She will be missed by her prayer and book groups, and many friends.

Eileen will be remembered for her feisty spirit, passion for flowers, love of reading, beautiful crocheting, and zest for life (and a cup of tea). The special way she viewed the world, her deep faith, and her love for her family will live on through all who knew her.

She may be gone from this earth now, but she will be carried in the hearts of her family and friends forever. She believed, “Where flowers bloom, so does hope.”

The wake will be Thursday, August 4, 2022, from 3 to 7 pm, at Honan Funeral Home in Newtown. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Rose of Lima Church on Friday, August 5, 2022, at 11 am, to be followed by a burial at St Rose Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Rose of Lima, Attn: Social Concerns Committee, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470.
