Newtown Police Department has issued a Silver Alert for a woman who was last seen by her family on Friday, July 26.

The alert was issued Sunday, July 28, concerning an 81-year-old female, Gertude Hampton.

According to the PD’s Facebook page, Mrs Hampton is known to become confused and often gets lost while out driving.”

Her vehicle — a 2015 Subaru Legacy with Connecticut marker plate AR-05117 — is also missing.

Greg Hampton, Mrs Hampton's son, told The Newtown Bee that his mother is approximate 5'6" tall and weighs approximately 160 pounds.

On his Facebook page, Mr Hampton Monday morning said that his mother may be suffering from a bladder infection, "which causes altered medical state as well as effects of not having diabetes meds for over 2 days now."

His family, he said, is tracking Mrs Hampton's activities through one of her credit cards.

The police do not believe that criminal activity is involved.

Monday morning, Newtown Police said they “have very good reason to believe that Mrs Hampton is traveling in the state of Pennsylvania and we have been working with local authorities in that area, at this time this investigation continues as a health and welfare situation and not a criminal one,” according to the department’s Facebook page.

Mr Hampton on Monday morning said that he and his family were "actively tracking" his mother's whereabouts. They believed she was in Maryland some time this morning.

"She appears to be just driving aimlessly. She was last in Mt Airy, MD at an Exxon station off I-70," he wrote.

"She recently drove to Maine and back without issue," he added. "If we had any reason to suspect she shouldn't be driving, we would have taken her keys long ago."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Newtown Police Department at 203-426-5841, in reference to CFS# 19-18845.
