Catherine L. Lubus

Catherine L. Lubus, 102, of 154 Triangle Street, Danbury, wife of the late Charles M. Lubus, Sr, died on July 30 at Danbury Hospital.

She was the mother of Hickey Jack Lubus of Hawleyville.

Mrs Lubus was born in Philadelphia, Penn., July 22, 1899, a daughter of the late Anthony and Elizabeth (Halbouty) Betar. She attended Philadelphia schools.

In early years, Mrs Lubus, one of 14 children, moved with her parents to Rensselaer County, N.Y., where she resided until 1928 when she moved to Danbury.

Mrs Lubus was a homemaker and was a member of St Anthony’s Maronite Catholic Church of Danbury.

She is survived by three sons, George R. Lubus of Danbury and Raymond J. Lubus of Bridgewater; two daughters, Victoria “Peggy” Evans of Austin, Tex., and Viola Dorr of Bethel; a sister, Ann Betar of Albany, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs Lubus was predeceased by five sons, Wilson Lubus, Arthur Edward Lubus, Charles M. Lubus, Jr, Morris M. Lubus, and Robert C. Lubus; and by a daughter, Gala Elizabeth Estefan.

The Liturgy of the Resurrection was celebrated August 2 in St Anthony’s Maronite Catholic Church, 17 Granville Avenue, Danbury, with the Rev Larry Jensen officiating.

Burial followed in St Peter Cemetery, Danbury.

Contributions in Mrs Lubus’ memory may be made to St Anthony’s Maronite Church or to the charity of one’s own choosing.

The Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Avenue, Danbury, was in charge of arrangements.
