Rock’s Biggest Influence To Perform At Ives Concert Park

DANBURY — One of rock’s most enduring legends, The Everly Brothers will perform at Ives Concert Part as a continuation of the 2001 Audi Summer Concert Series on Sunday, August 12, at 7 pm. Don and Phil Everly are widely credited as the most influential musicians of any era, infusing early rock and roll with a striking blend of country and pop themes. Of Don and Phil, Bob Dylan once remarked, “We owe these guys everything. They started it all.”

Celebrated for classic hits such as “Wake Up Little Susie,” “All I Have to Do is Dream,” “Cathy’s Clown” and “When Will I Be Loved,” The Everly Brothers’ debut hit, “Bye Bye Love,” spent six months at the top of the charts.

“Bye Bye Love” began a string of 26 Top 40 singles for The Everly Brothers, whose worldwide record sales have since topped 40 million. In 1986, they were among the first ten inductees into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in the same year they received a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. In 1997 they were awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from The Recording Academy.

The Everly Brothers performance will also feature special guests The Kingston Trio. The original Kingston Trio was formed in 1957 by Bob Shane, Nick Reynolds and Dave Guard while the three were attending college in the San Francisco area. With the release of the # 1 hit “Tom Dooley,” the group set out to change American folk music forever.

After four decades of touring, two Grammys, and several more gold records, The Kingston Trio is still wowing audiences with “M.T.A.,” “Greenback Dollar” and “Reverend Mr Black.”

The concert is sponsored by People’s Bank and begins at 7 pm, with gates to open at 5. Tickets range from $25 for the lawn ($10 for children ages 3-12), to $40 for reserved seats and $55 for Gold reserved from the Ives box office or any TicketMaster outlets — call 744-8100 or visit any Filene’s, The Wiz, and HMV Records stores.
