Barbara (Bronk) Hiruo, 71, of Southbury, formerly of Newtown, devoted wife of Robert S. Hiruo, died peacefully in her sleep at her home on July 28. She was born in Winchester, Mass., on June 4, 1945, beloved daughter of Helen (Walsh) Bronk-Akerstrom of Southbury and the late John Bronk.cornellmemorial.com.

She enjoyed her work as a realtor for many years in Newtown and was an active community member.

Ms Hiruo was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother, who was happiest when spending time with her family.

In her younger years, she was active in her children's many activities, including ballet, Newtown youth soccer, the NHS marching program, lacrosse, swim teams, and as a Brownie leader.

She enjoyed gardening and cooking, and loved spending time on the ocean in Chatham and Ipswich, Mass.

Ms Hiruo's kind-hearted, compassionate nature was a true blessing to those around her.

She was a loving companion to her husband, a best friend to her mother, and a constant source of love and affirmation to her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her mother, Helen, and her husband of 47 years, Bob, she will be sadly missed by her son, Jason Hiruo and his wife, Amy; her daughter Sarah A. Bourdeau and her husband, Jason; and her four cherished grandchildren.

A memorial service will take place on Friday, August 5, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Newtown, at 11:30 am. Interment in the memorial garden at the church will follow.

The family will receive friends at the church on Friday morning between the hours of 10 to 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation, 8301 Professional Place East, Suite 200, Landover MD 20785-2353.
