Rosalie Marie "Flood" Kallas, 80, of Monroe died July 29 at Danbury Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on November 18, 1937, in Danbury, she was the daughter of the late Paul Kallas and Genevieve (Pannozza) Kallas, and the sister of the late Michael A. Kallas.

Rosalie graduated from Danbury High School and then graduated from St Vincent's School of Nursing in Bridgeport as a registered nurse. She was a dedicated medical nurse, but eagerly put her career aside to lovingly raise her four children in Newtown with her former husband, the late William M. Flood, Sr. Nothing brought her greater joy than being a mother.

In 1972, she returned to nursing with a dedication to treating those with mental illness and addiction at Fairfield Hills Hospital. Rosalie retired in 2001 to enjoy every day of being a grandmother to her seven grandchildren, who will forever miss her.

Always a caregiver and helper, Rosalie was a member of Newtown's Woman's Club for almost two decades. She worked diligently on numerous committees to make a difference in other people's lives, such as The Red Cross Bloodmobile, Rocky Hill veteran's hospital, FAITH Food Pantry, The Women's Center of Greater Danbury, and so many more. She was also a founding member of Newtown United, the local nonprofit organization for cancer patients and families.

Rosalie was a very special and caring woman who was loved by so many people. She loved to laugh, have fun, and play cards and Scrabble with her friends when she was not faithfully attending all of her grandchildren's sporting events. She had an amazing spirit, optimistic outlook, and a beautiful smile that could light up any room. She will forever be in our hearts.

Rosalie is survived by her four children and their spouses: William Flood Jr and his wife, Jennifer, of Southbury; Karen (Flood) Culkins and her husband, Michael, of Bolton, Mass.; Brian Flood and his wife, Magali, of Southbury; and Kimberly (Flood) Lydon and her husband, Robert, of Sandy Hook. She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren. She will be missed by her devoted sister-in-law, Berni Kallas of Danbury, her nieces and nephews, and her wonderful friends, whom she cherished so very much.

Friends and family may call at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown, on Sunday, August 5, between the hours of 4 pm and 7 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Stephen's Catholic Church, 6948 Main Street in Trumbull, on Monday, August 6, at 12:30 pm. Interment will follow immediately at Resurrection Cemetery in Newtown. A celebration of her life will follow the burial.
