More than 70 riders participated in 67 different classes – including English, Western, Hunter, Pleasure, Equitation, Lead-Line and Driving – at the annual fundraising horse show of the Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard last weekend at Fairfield Hills.

The show is recognized by the Connecticut Hunter Jumper Association and the Connecticut Horse Shows Association.

Second Lieutenant Jennifer Taylor was the show manager and Major Gordon Johnson the Chairperson. Naomi Gauruder of BHC Management was the course designer and the Judges were Diane Sheehan and Megan MacCallum.

Trophies were awarded to three riders: The Governor’s Cup – awarded to the highest scoring Adult Amateur Hunter or Modified Adult Amateur Hunter – went to Tami Scotto. The Adjutant General’s Perpetual Trophy – awarded to the highest scoring Children’s Hunter – went to Payton Greene. And The Town of Newtown Perpetual Trophy – awarded to the highest scoring Short Stirrup Rider – went to Emma Gorham.

The horse show is a fund raising event for the Troop. The Second Company is a 100% volunteer state militia unit, serving the Governor and the State of Connecticut under the direction of the Connecticut National Guard.

Upcoming events include: Open House on September 30 where the Second Company will present a mounted Cavalry Drill and the drill team will perform. “Pony” rides on the guard mounts will also take place; The annual Trail Ride for St. Judes Children’s Hospital with all proceeds going directly to St. Judes (please email publicaffairs@thehorseguard.com if you would like to be on the mailing list pledge forms).
