How To Find Your Jewish Great-Grandparents

SOUTHBURY — The Jewish Federation will offer a free lecture on Thursday, August 9, from 7 to 8 pm, titled “How to Find Your Jewish Great-Grandparents.” Attendees will learn basic strategies and hints for researching their Jewish ancestors who emigrated during the 19th and early 20th Centuries from Eastern Europe. Online and local resources will be covered, as well as how to begin learning about your family from the “old country.”

The presentation will be given by Meredith Hoffman, a professional genealogist who specializes in researching 19th and early 20th Century Jewish immigrants. She holds degrees in linguistics from UC Berkeley and a certificate from Boston University’s Genealogical Research Program.

She is also the founding editor of the Success! Stories webzine on JewishGen.org, and the Town Leader & KehillaLinks coordinator for Berezno, Ukraine, at JewishGen.org. In addition, Ms Hoffman is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists.

The Jewish Federation of Western CT is at 444 Main Street North (Route 6/67). Reservations are requested and can be made by calling Jessica Aframe, at 203-267-3177, extension 307.
