The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard Show

By Abbie Branchflower

The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard conducted its annual fundraising horse show on Sunday, July 22, at the guard’s facilities at Fairfield Hills.

The show, recognized by both the Connecticut Hunter and Jumper Association and the Connecticut Horse Shows Association, had classes ranging from pleasure divisions to carriage classes and hunter jumper courses.

The show was well-attended by several local families enjoying the nice weather and attracted competitors from throughout New England. Many competitors and their trainers described the show as a “fun, nice show” and said they would definitely return.

Of interest was a horse called Paddington Bear that competed in the hunter divisions. Paddington Bear, shown by Hope Whitelock, is the full brother of Ravel, an Olympic contender for Team USA in dressage this year.

The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard’s first horse show took place in 1999.
