UNCASVILLE - Grammy Award-winning rock band Evanescence and powerhouse violinist Lindsey Stirling headlined a sensory experience tour that made a local stop at the Mohegan Sun arena on Wednesday, July 25.

Some may know Stirling from her big break on America's Got Talent, where she was a quarterfinalist in the show's fifth season back in 2010, or others may know her from being the runner-up on Dancing With The Stars just last year.

Nearly 11 million people, however, follow her on YouTube, where she has an estimated two billion collective views on her videos.

The classically trained violinist defies conventional genres of music by blending her craft with electronica and dance music to create a one-of-a-kind lane of entertainment that she is trailblazing.

Stirling started her set by showcasing a compilation video of moments throughout her accomplished career - as well as significant adversaries, like Piers Morgan from who boldly told her she was "not good enough."America's Got Talent,

When she took the stage at Mohegan Sun, she sparkled from jacket to shoes, matching the shattered disco ball image radiating light on the floor-to-ceiling background screen.

Her feet seemed to hardly touch the ground as she gracefully made strides across the stage - giving twirls, kicks, jumps, and even a moonwalk for good measure. She did that all while playing the violin with such intensity that it appeared the music was physically coursing through her.

Each movement she made was purposeful in telling the story of the song and exemplified the exceptional full-body control she had.

On stage, Stirling was accompanied by a full orchestra and multiple dancers who helped convey the deep emotion packed into every song.

Despite the majority of her pieces not incorporating vocals, when she performed her song "Shatter Me," which originally featured Lzzy Hale, Stirling was joined by Evanescence lead singer Amy Lee.

As the song began, the stage's background video showed gears turning in synchronization, but by the end of the song - thanks to Lee's soaring vocals and Stirling's racing violin rhythm - the gears shattered and appeared raining down with broken glass.

When Stirling spoke to the crowd, she told the audience that this tour with Evanescence means so much to her because she gets to perform with Lee, her "idol."

Stirling even showed a very humanizing clip of her and her friends from 2002, when she was just 15 years old, covering the band's megahit "Bring Me To Life."

Speaking sincerely, she said whether someone sees the potential in you or not does not matter, as long as you have the drive to make your dreams happen. Stirling attributes her passion, plans, and hard work to making her vision of being a performer into a reality.

Still, each night she says she gets chills and has to pinch herself getting to headline a tour with Evanescence.

Later in the evening, Stirling admitted that she still has fears of inadequacy before she takes the stage to perform. Having overcome an eating disorder and feelings of self-hate, she used the analogy that people may not be able to take the darkness out of a dark room, but adding light can make all the difference. Her ability to get to where she is today is because of meditation, visualization, and prayer that has helped her grow her light.

Throughout the night, Stirling also played popular songs like "Crystallize" off her 2012 self-titled album; "Lost Girls" off her Brave Enough album, released in 2016; "Take Flight" off her 2014 album Shatter Me; and a Phantom of the Opera medley that brought the crowd to their feet.

Evanescence opened their set with Lee center stage under a spotlight singing "Never Go Back," a track off the band's 2011 self-titled album. Her fellow bandmates were stationed in the center of the stage, between the local orchestra that continued to give the night's performances a full-body rush of music.

"Never Go Back" is also featured on Evanescence's newest album, Synthesis, released in 2017, that features reworked versions of the band's previous songs and a handful of new material.

Lee's voice engulfed the room with such power and emotion that it was like a bird in flight circling through the arena.

Fittingly, as she performed "The End of The Dream," an original track off Synthesis, the screen behind her showed an ominous, cloudy sky with black birds flying. As the song built, more birds began to take over the sky flying in every direction.

With more than 20 years of performing experience, Lee headbanged and struck emotive chords that brought chills to the audience, proving motherhood and the release of a children's album did not cause her to lose any grit and passion for her rock roots.

She performed fan favorites like "Bring Me To Life" and "Imaginary" off the band's debut studio album

Fallen in 2003; "Lithium" off their 2006 album The Open Door; and "Lost in Paradise" from their 2011 self-titled release.

When talking to the crowd, Lee said her favorite thing about music is its ability to take people to another place, to which she played a rendition of The Beatles' song "Across The Universe."

While at the piano, she had many poignant moments, including playing the song "Hi-Lo" that features Stirling, who returned to the stage and performed alongside her.

"I'm so grateful for this crazy, difficult, insane road that has been life for me - and I know has been for so many of us. Thank you so much. I'm just grateful for you all being right here, right now," Lee said later in the night while looking out at the crowd. "Can we just live in this one moment without thinking about the next moment, without worrying about tomorrow? [Let's] just be grateful for this moment; we're all here tonight celebrating music."

The song that elicited the biggest celebratory reaction, hands down, was the soothing, yet heart-wrenching, ballad "My Immortal."

With lighters in the air, and its modern counterpart (cell phones on flashlight mode), the darkened arena seemed to transform into a star-filled night sky.

At the end of the set, the whole Evanescence band, Stirling, and local orchestra members all gathered to take a unified and well deserved bow after having brought the sensory experience to life for all who attended.
