Fairfield University announced the following local residents were named to its Dean’s List for the spring semester: Ryan T. Daly, Christina M. Ercole, Emily S. Fiorey, Molly E. Murtha, and Lauren R. Sippin of Newtown, and Michelle D. Brennan of Sandy Hook. To be selected for the Dean’s List at the university a student must attain a grade point average of at least 3.5 of a possible 4.0.

Area students have graduated from Hartwick College, Oneonta, N.Y., this school year. Logan Allison of Newtown, daughter of Sally and Geoffrey Allison, graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in the college’s Individual Student Program, and Megan Petruney of Newtown, daughter of Dianne Schnee and George Petruney, graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in art.

In Blacksburg, Va., three area residents graduated from Virginia Tech during a commencement ceremony held on May 13. John Quinn of Newtown received a bachelor of science degree in sociology from the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, Justin Miller of Sandy Hook received a bachelor of science degree in construction engineering and management from the College of Engineering, and Kristi Nowak of Sandy Hook received a bachelor of science degree magna cum laude in interior design from the College of Architecture and Urban Studies.

Seth C. Hull of Newtown received Faculty Honors for his academic work during the spring semester at Trinity College in Hartford. To earn Faculty Honors a student must achieve a semester grade point average of at least a 3.667 with no individual letter grade below a B-minus.
