New Sign Marks The Way To Eichler’s Cove Marina

By Kendra Bobowick

Amandio Santos stood nearly waist-deep in a shallow pit of bared roots and stones Tuesday morning, August 2. Double-checking that the fresh-dug space was ready to hold a new Eichler’s Cove Marina sign’s footings in place, he soon hopped into the truck bed where he and other Parks and Recreation Department crew members mixed cement.

Working to fill a mixer were Ryan Pearlman and Stephen Sapienza, who soon poured the first bucket of soupy cement in place.

Archie Paloian stood back to glance at the new sign, and noted that its new, lower position on the corner of Old Bridge and Great Quarter Road offered a better line of sight for people leaving the marina and making an immediate turn onto the intersection of Route 34. Pointing to the raw, rocky earth around the sign, he said that new grass seed and plantings would soon surround the engraved granite marker. Along with the marina’s name is the town seal, creating the type of sign that will set the standard for park signs at Treadwell and Dickinson, said Assistant Director of Parks Carl Samuelson. Mr Samuelson had stopped by Tuesday to look at the sign, held upright with cables suspended from a backhoe until the cement supported it.

Treadwell Parks’ sign is also ready for installation, and he anticipates that a sign for Dickinson Park will be ready for the next fiscal year.
