Dr Wolman Named Medical Director

At Lutheran Home Of Southbury

SOUTHBURY — The Lutheran Home of Southbury announced that Daniel E. Wollman, MD, PhD, has accepted their medical directorship position. A resident of Newtown, Dr Wollman is a geriatrician, who obtained his doctorates from the University of Pennsylvania.

Highly interested in client-oriented care models that improve satisfaction and efficiency, his philosophy of care matches the Lutheran Home’s social model of care for its residents, their family, and staff members. He is an advocate for people with memory related disorders like Alzheimer’s disease and dementias. This devotion to the care of the elderly with memory disorders also matches the Lutheran Home, whose special focus is on dementia care.

In addition to his many professional experiences, medical directorship with the Connecticut VNA’s “Living with Memory Loss” program, adjunct instructor at the Brookdale Department of Geriatrics at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, he also is the director and CEO of the Southern New England Memory Disorders Center in Newtown.

Dr Wollman’s academic and professional responsibilities has lead him to be awarded with the Mount Sinai School of Medicine Excellence in Medical Student Teaching Award, St Vincent’s Medical Center Award for Critical Care, and the St Louise de Marillac Award for outstanding service at St Vincent’s Medical Center. He is well published in the annuals of The Neuroscientist, Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, and Journal of Neuroscience Methods.

Dr Wollman is very active in the Alzheimer’s Association as a board member and lecturer at educational conferences. He also sits on various boards and committees including the Connecticut Medical Director’s Association, Geriatric Mental Health Alliance, and at the United Jewish Center.

The Lutheran Home of Southbury has been offering skilled nursing and rest home care to elders in the community since 1918. Today, the home has developed specialized programming for patients with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia related disorders. The entire staff of the home has been certified by the Alzheimer’s Association.

In addition to Dr Wollman’s appointment, Wesley L. Bard, who has been serving interim administrator of the home since April, was named the new president and chief executive officer.
