Elizabeth J. Mallen

Elizabeth J. (Lynch) Mallen, RN, 84, of Trumbull, beloved wife of the late John F. Mallen, Jr, died August 1 at St Joseph’s Manor.

Mrs Mallen was born in Bridgeport, daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (Tyrell) Lynch and had been a Trumbull resident since 1931.

She is survived by her loving children, four sons, Paul T. Mallen and Peter B. Mallen, both of Trumbull, formerly of Newtown, Michael J. Mallen and his wife Pat, and John G. Mallen III, all of Bridgeport; a daughter, Bett Farina and her husband Jack of Bel Air, Md.; a brother, John R. Lynch of Washington, D.C.; and two grandchildren, Keely (Farina) Donoway and Daniel Mallen; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Thomas J. Lynch.

She was a graduate of Bassick High School, Bridgeport, Class of 1937, and received her nursing degree in 1941 from St Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs Mallen was a US Navy Nurse Corps veteran of World War II and was the retired owner of Mallen Nursing Registry, associated with St Vincent’s Medical Center. She was the first woman trustee for St Theresa Parish, Trumbull, a eucharistic minister, served with the Temporal Affairs Commission, member and past president of the Confraternity of the Rosary, and currently chairman of Nocturnal Adoration and Hospital Visitation with the Confraternity, a member of the Catholic Council of Women, and co-founder in 1959 of St Raymond Nonnatus Mothers’ Circle.

Mrs Mallen was originator and member of the St Theresa Multiple Sclerosis Support Group, and member of the Trumbull Women’s Club, St Vincent’s Medical Center Auxiliary and Nursing School Alumni Association. She was the first woman member of the Trumbull American Legion Post #141, past president of the Tashua Knolls Nine Hole Women’s Golf Group, and participated in the Brownson County Club Bridge Marathons.

Funeral services were held Thursday, August 5, from the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull, and in St Theresa Church, with a Mass of Christian Burial.

Interment with full military honors followed in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
