Landscape Painting Demo By Ivers At Next SCAN Program

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Christine Ivers of Meriden demonstrating in pastel on Wednesday, August 11, at 7:30 pm. Her subject will be a landscape.

Non-members are welcome. The program will be in the lower meeting room at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole).

Ms Ivers earned a BFA in painting and two-dimensional design from Harford Art School in 1973 and found work in the advertising field for the last 40 years, after which she returned to her passion of painting and works in both pastels and oils.

She is the president of the CT Pastel Society, of which she is also a Signature Member. Chris is also a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, an Elected Artist at Lyme Art Association, Audubon Artists, Allied Artists of America, and Academic Artists of America. She is also affiliated with CT Women Artists, Salmagundi Club NYC, CT Society of Portrait Artists, and numerous other New England art organizations.

Ms Ivers received a Master Circle Medal at the International Association of Pastel Societies Convention that was held in Albuquerque, N.M., in May 2009. This year she was chosen to have her paintings included in Kennedy Publishing’s Best in American Artists Pastel Edition and she is one of this year’s Paint America’s National Top 100 Artists. Most recently she was awarded the Art Spirit Foundation Silver Medal Award for Excellence in Pastel and was chosen as one of the Top 100 Pastelists by Pastel Journal where she received an Honorable Mention in the Landscape Division.

She will be featured in the French publication Practique des Arts in an issue highlighting pastel artists from around the world in June.

The work of Ms Ivers has won many awards across the country and is part of private and public collections.

Admission is free and reservations are not needed for SCAN programs but additional information is available. Contact Ruth Newquist at 203-426-6654.
