Donations made to Newtown Youth Academy Sports & Fitness Center (NYA) make it possible for the center to offer the following  programs to the Newtown community at no charge. Registration is requested for each program and can be done through NYA’s website, at NYASportsFitness.com.

NYA, at 4 Primrose Street, can be reached for additional information at 203-426-0088.

*Open House, Monday, August 12, from 7 to 10 pm.

The turf, basketball courts and tennis courts will all be open for college-age residents to make it the ultimate playground. Play anything from flag football, volleyball, and ultimate Frisbee to kickball, whiffle ball, handball, soccer or dodgeball.

*Open Soccer Play Day — Wednesday, August 14, 2-3:30 pm for those entering grades 2-5, and 3:30-5 pm for those entering grades 6-8.

The turf will be open for Newtown kids to play soccer in a supervised environment while having fun with their friends.

*Fitness Extreme Workout & Children’s Activities — Saturday, August 17, 9 to 11 am.

NYA members and Newtown residents are invited to attend a 90-minute special workout session which includes Boot Camp training, Muscle Mayhem, and Weekend Warrior Speed and Agility training.

The fun and challenging workout features NYA’s Signature MMTS Training Systems (extreme metabolic conditioning). All levels, ages 14 and up, are welcome. Space is limited and registration should be done as soon as possible. This is the third such program being offered this summer, and the first two were completely filled.

(NYA members should note that the 7:30 am Spin class will still be offered on August 17, but no others classes will be held between 9 and 11 am.)

While adults are working out, children are invited to age appropriate activities. For ages 3-6 there will be parachute play, assorted tag games, arts and crafts, and an inflatable obstacle course. For ages 7 and up offerings will include dodgeball, kickball, capture the flag and more.

Regular childcare will also be available for parents who choose to not use the special planned activities.

*Open Lacrosse Play Day —Wednesday, August 21.

The turf will be open for Newtown kids who want to play some lacrosse in a supervised environment. Note: full equipment is required to participate.

The space will be open from 1 to 2:30 pm for those entering grades 2-5, and them from 2:30 to 4 pm for those starting grades 6-8 this year.

*Open Play Day — Friday, August 30.

All Newtown children are invited to enjoy NYA’s ultimate playground, with your friends, and just be a kid.

Flag football, open basketball, dodgeball, inflatables, and more will all be available, with 90-minute sessions set up for different age groups: grades 7-8 will begin at 3 pm; grades 5-6, 4:30 pm; grades K-4, 6 pm; and high school students, 7:30 pm.
