On Sunday, August 16, the Newtown Republican Town Committee will host a Family BBQ and fundraiser under the pavilion at Treadwell Park, 39 Philo Curtis Road in Sandy Hook.

The GOP will be serving up favorite picnic foods including hamburgers, hot dogs, steamed clams, and clams on the half shell. Summer salads, desserts, and soft beverages will accompany.

Entertainment includes DJ music, games, and a dunk tank where you will have an opportunity to dunk various Republican elected officials or Town Committee members.

The BBQ will run from 1 to 5 pm rain or shine, and tickets are $20 per adult and $5 per child under 13 with a $50 family out-of-pocket max.

Tickets are available for purchase in advance by contacting Judy Thomas at 203-300-4332 or at the event.

Along with the entertainment at the event, guests will have access to park playgrounds, basketball, volleyball, and tennis at no additional charge. Children’s activities are also planned.

An added $5 per person Parks & Rec fee will be collected from anyone wishing to use the swimming pool facilities.

Among the expected officials attending are First Selectman Pat Llodra, Legislative Council Chair Mary Ann Jacob, and State Senator Tony Hwang.

“I look forward to enjoying a Sunday afternoon with all my friends from Newtown,” said Mrs Llodra. “I hope the water in the dunk tank isn’t too cold.”

The Newtown Republican Town Committee meets at 7:30 pm each fourth Wednesday of the month at Newtown Senior Center, 14 Riverside Road. The next RTC meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 26. Guests are welcome.
